I can't seem to beat the mother brain in Chrono Trigger, I do good for a minute or two and then it starts nullifying status effects. Right now I have

Attack the panels on the back. When you kill those three, she can't really do much of anything and you'll be free to just whoop up on her.

Neal, That is what I did, I had Magus use thunder 2 to kill them off and then she starts nulling techs. Are there any equipment that can prevent it at all?

I always thought that she was fairly easy. Guess not everyone shares my sentiment...
Which characters have you in your party? Which level(s) are they at? This post has been edited by Figaro on 30th March 2004 20:44 -------------------- Wow. 1,000 posts. I miss you all now that I'm in boarding school! ;_; |

Figs, he answered that in the original post.
Anyway, I would recommend levelling up your techs a little more. Having Shock for Robo would be very helpful, as many tech points as it takes. Consider shifting around your characters, too, because Crono would be extremely useful for this fight. -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing? There are three ways to do this.
Way One: Just start using lots of Lightning attacks. Displays only have 1 HP and Mother Brain is rather lacking in that department herself. When the displays are gone, she can't be healed, but she nukes you with a big red unnamed attack. Each nuke is stronger than the last. This is a brute force method - kill her before she kills you. Way Two: Keep one display alive, but deal more damage to MB each turn than it heals. Slower, but you won't get nuked. Way Three: Use a stop tech such as Boogie (R/A) on the displays. They are vulnerable to stop, thus MB doesn't get healed, and you don't get nuked. Hope this helps. -------------------- My soul is bound to the Mistress of the Afterlife, and my fealty is to her always. So let's just hope she doesn't use it as one of her ten daily meals. |

Interestingly enough, by the time I took on Mother Brain*, I was at something like level 50, so although I beat her with leaving one display on, I reloaded state and smashed all the panels. With my defense and armor, each attack did around 7 damage.
But yes, those are the strategies--the ones that The Celestial suggested. I've never heard of the third one before, and the first one seems readily obvious (and was thus never seen in strategy guides), but the second one is all over the net. But what's her weakness? *When I saw this topic mentioned as the most-recently-posted-in topic on the main forum screen, I admit to wondering to myself what a Metroid topic was doing here. -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. My recollection is a bit dusty after several years, but I seem to remember abusing Falcon Hit a lot. I may have done the same thing against Mother Brain (seems pretty conceivable that you can tag Mother Brain and the screens all at once with Falcon Hit).
