| Why? Because you can always break your rod or staff. This opens new options for your characters. Supose a melee character who has not trained !black or !summon. If he or she has equip rods you can always cast ice++, fire++ and thunder++, and bio too. Hey, if you have killed enough metamorphs you can cast holy� way before you have the real spell. I know this is very situational, 90 % of the time you are better training black mage or summoner, but is not a bad strategy over all. |

| Is it not possible to use rods as items unless you have them equipped? |

| For break them, not, you can't. You take them from your objects menu or you have them already equipped. Then, if you are not a a rod user (freelancers and mimes included) you can't break the rod. |
