pinch.gif Am I the only one who thought like this?

1. "If you see the water is BRIGHT PURPLE, and you DRINK IT ANYWAY, you deserved to die -A- "

2. -in the first fight with Kefka, when he runs away after each hit- "Why can't I just tackle you? You're the size of a teenage girl!"

3. "First, you OUTRAN the train. Now you can't keep up to say goodbye to your family."

Please note: This is simply how I thought. Do not tell me I am cruel or PM me saying that I am a monster because I was mean to the poor, poor Domans. I will point and laugh.

1. The bright purple water was just to make it evident to the players that the poison has reached Doma. I don't think we are supposed to assume that the characters actually saw it as bright purple. Cyan did say it "looks odd", but presumably he saw something more questionable than what we did.

2. Teenage girls can be very good at escaping. We can wriggle in ways that we don't even understand while we're doing them sometimes. Just watch me escape from a tickle attack from my mom, you'll see what I mean. It doesn't seem beneath Kefka to do the same. Besides, Sabin didn't learn how to tackle; he learned to punch. They are very different things!

3. Well, the railing was such that he couldn't run past a certain point. He was forbidden to follow them; forbidden by the train, perhaps. Another point that someone else made a while ago is that Sabin's Scenario is essentially a tall tale. Even if it really happened in the story, no one's gonna believe that the whole thing is true.

That being said, the answer to your question is "no". My brother and I say the exact same things every time we play this game and laugh for ages.

1. It was a siege situation. The water was their only source, so it's either chance the poison or die of dehydration. It could also go to show that the water also contaminated the plants and animals and also caused them to be poisonous. The game also plays extremely fast land loose with time, so we actually don't know how long it took for the poison to take effect. It might seem laughably stupid to you, who might be thinking you could simply go to the nearest 7-11 and get a beer or soda or something, but this is the end of what was understood to be a prolonged conflict, where supplies might also have been running low, etc.

2. Kefka hits like a ton of bricks. and has the strength of a madman. He might also have Jedi type reflexes and quickness due to his enhancements.

3. Okay, now this is where I'm like uhhh you DO know this is a fantasy game, right? A ghost train is too far fetched for people to believe, but transforming humans, giant dragons, giant mecha, and people chucking fire and lightning are completely believable?

They slowed the train down before they fought it. Plus, that's a little unfair. He just lost his family and fought a train. He was exasperated and emotionally distraught. The first and third of your questions I personally think are rather cruel. We don't even know that the Domans drank the water, or if the water looked bright purple to them.

Whoa, everyone. Calm down. Take a breath. Why so serious? This is simply how I was thinking when I first played . Nothing more, nothing less.
At the time, did I think about how else the Domans could have been poisoned other than drinking it? Yeah... Nope.
I don't mean to be hard on Cyan, but that's just what I was thinking.
And let me say this. Just about ANYONE can hit like a ton of bricks with a ball-and-chain. It all depends on how fast it's going before you hit someone. And Kefka? Jedi reflexes? Nah. Celes wouldn't have been able to stab him if that was the case. Let's not give him more credit than he deserves.

Raven, thanks for understanding the way I think.

BlitzSage, we already had the discussion about the poison on a different topic. There I explained to you my somewhat pragmatic way of thinking, and you guided me in a more civil way of thinking, which I appreciate.
This topic was posted before that, I believe. And I must point out that you have no proof that they didn't drink it, just as I have no proof that they did.
I apologize if I come off as cruel to you, but it's just how I am.

Or, Celes could be enhanced as well. she after all, did go through the same process, only more complete, as Kefka had.

Yes, except Kefka is 35 and Celes is 18-ish. And given the timeline, he'd only be 19 or 20 when he was infused.
Meaning that he'd have had more time to perfect these Jedi tricks than she would.

They all started dying around a similar time at Doma, so it definitely seemed like poison was the cause to me. Between the Kefka cutscene of him poisoning and Doma cutscene where they start dying, it's unlikely that it was suppose to be an instant cut, but rather a period of time that had elapsed (maybe a day?). Besides being heavily implied that it was the cause of death by the amount of attention the poison was getting. If it was hunger or something that killed instead, it's probably likely that some people would have lasted (days?) longer than others.

I posted this reply in the wrong thread, but it applies there too.

Think of the presentation of things in this game as like on-stage representations of the events, in the course of a play. Not everything can be reproduced faithfully. Sometimes, time has to be shortened to display a result quickly, even if it might have taken days, for exampe. And the water turning purple might not literally be what "actually" happens, but just a visual shorthand for the presence of the poison.

Sorry if we come off as too serious, Ker. We're an intellectual bunch, and we tend to over-think things. When discussing games that are 15+ years old, we get so deep that I guess we sometimes forget that some question are just meant for an easy laugh. I'm still a teenager, so I might be less inclined to seriousness. I also have this really silly family that likes to make fun of everything we like.

It's not really the intellectual aspect that bothers me- it was when I started to get particularly vicious emails about deserving to die because I didn't feel terrible for the Domans that I started getting frustrated. *shrug* Those emails just made me feel even less empathy for the Domans.

I'm glad I'm not the only one of my age group here.

I love how serious you guys can be. happy.gif it makes these forums intriguing.
I don't deny I can be cruel in a way (In my first playthrough, I pardoned Kefka in the hopes that he'd kill off one particular town that'd rustled my jimmies), but I still think that those emails were unnecessary.

I didn't know you were receiving vicious emails. Anyone who did that should feel ashamed of themselves. Now, I will say, those stupid emails and people behind them shouldn't make you feel less empathy.

I'll say this: I disagree, and I've made that known. But if they really did say that you deserve to die... well, I can't use the words they deserve to have hurled at them on this forum.

All that being said, GMH has said it best. Playing this game (or any other game) you have to have a suspension of disbelief. It's a stage representation, not reality. We have to judge by what the creators were intending to convey. In this case, it was Kefka's evil, not necessarily Doma's stupidity.

And I should make this point again: I just wrote words on an internet forum. If you get the urge to say that I or anyone else deserves to die, you know where you can send those emails shifty.gif

Wow, people actually threatened you over this forum? My friend, I might have disagreed with the "deserve to die" comment rather emphatically, but I'd never once attack someone personally for a statement over a piece of fiction.

Well, I'm glad it wasn't either of you two (you're some of my favorite people here, after all!) and I appreciate the words of support. I have no idea who sent me the emails, but they were pretty nasty, and I hope whoever sent them is not only reading this, but turning tomato red in embarrassment. Death threats over something as silly as this?

I know it shouldn't make me feel less empathy, but it does. Those words hurt my feelings, and now whenever I get to the Poisoning I don't feel a lick of empathy at all. I just remember those mean words.
It's disappointing, because I was actually starting to feel bad for them because of BlitzSage's argument.

Not to derail, but feel free to forward me any of those emails if you suspect they came to you due to this thread from users who use this site. If I can help track any of them down, I will, because that's not something I accept around here. I'll do whatever I can to keep them from using this site at all, let alone to send abusive emails to my users.

Wow, I should've thought of that sooner, Ranger. Really sorry about that.

But anyways, I'll try to get the thread back on topic.

And I'll do that in absolutely the most sophisticated, intellectual, and dignified way possible:

I love pro wrestling. I love when two great performers go in the ring and basically tell a story. Like Shawn Michaels versus the Undertaker at WrestleMania 25. Now, I know that the ending and several spots are scripted. I also know that Shawn Michaels' Sweet Chin Music doesn't connect, hard at least. And I know that Taker's Tombstone Piledriver will not have the opponents' head (usually, at least) touch the mat. There are several things which, taken literally, would spoil the magic. And I know that for many people it does (like my brother, for instance). But if you establish a suspension of disbelief, and you accept and understand the medium's or the game's internal logic, you cant get past several issues like the one you're having.

With that being said, it's like a Rorschach test, once you saw something one way, it's hard to change your mind and see it differently. sweetdude and I had similar discussions here, when he said that he couldn't feel emotions from FFVI's sprites, especially with the mixture of drama and comedy, like in the moments after the poisoning. It's hard to switch that over.
