I know there's already a thread about this in the general topics section, but STILL... today is in fact October 11, 2014: 20th anniversary of the release of that one particular translation of FFVI which was all that was known for such a long time in the English-speaking world (AKA Final Fantasy "III") which played so huge a role in touching the hearts and minds of so many of us here in the west. So yeah... I'm playing it again for the gazillionth time. Twice, actually! I already cleared out WoB on one game, where I pretty much rushed through most of it, skipped getting Mog in WoB, didn't even save Shadow-I pretty much just focused on leveling up Edgar, Celes and Setzer. I'm in WoR now on that one, with just those three characters, levelling up gradually... I think most of you can guess at what I'm going for there.
In the other game I'm just going through it normally, though I made sure to level up EARLY... IE when it's still just Terra in your party in the Caves of Narshe, prior to the flashback scene... and you have 3 sleeping bags and an elixir on you, and 40something EXP still means something. I actually got her to level 12 before moving on. I usually settle on level 10. Trust me, it makes things go MUCH, much smoother in WoB. Then I made sure to unequip Mog during the moogle battle, then when I got Edgar I levelled him up by himself up to 17 out in the desert, right after talking to Kefka for the 1st time, autocrossbowing and/or mithrilpiking everything coming my way. Now I just got Sabin in my party after the Mt. Koltz boss, and I'm planning to level up further with that first full party of 4 you get in the game so far before I move on to the Returner hideout/3scenarios bit for that game. I actually managed to steal 2 mithril claws in the forest next to South Figaro, so I think I might actually choose Genji Glove over Gauntlet this time. I'll deal with that tomorrow. So yeah... Thought I'd celebrate such an auspicious day in my *own* way, as one particular aforementioned character from said game might put it... by admitting, nay, *PROCLAIMING* to all who care to read this just how much of a nerd I am!!! I can't recall where I have posted these things and where I haven't, but I can throw it in here too - Final Fantasy VI is the first game I ever preordered, and I was immensely frustrated because I wasn't able to pick it up on release day, being too young to drive myself to the shopping center and having no ride.
Maybe I talked more about it in the CoNcast? http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/news/article/...ast-episode-11/ -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

One of the games of my life. Rehashing my praise for it. I have a fanfic based off it. Unforgettable.

I first played FFVI in 2003...so about 9 years after its release, it looks like. Pretty sure I finished it in September or October 2003.
And looks like I'm 19 days late for this thread, too, haha! I'm late even for my retro games. -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. Didn't want to make a new topic for this and seemed like the best match so...
20 years after I first played this in 1994 and just recently do I find there's a graveyard in WoR Mobliz. Enter from the world map and immediately walk down to reach it. 20/20 hindsight being what it is, it would seem obvious that something's there but I doubt anyone who's not a hacker would find this. I searched only after viewing a trailer for a hack. |
