Two more newcomers to the brackets this time around, starting with The Oath from Final Fantasy VIII. While not the most-often-heard track in the game, it's often played in times of emotional content between Squall and Rinoa, leading it to become a favorite of those who enjoy the game.
In a very different vein, Cid's Theme is a bold and confident character theme with a lot of fanfare-style horns, appropriate for the man himself. You'll hear it for the first time when he cusses you out for trying to borrow the Tiny Bronco, if you're so inclined. |

Hate to be picky, but "The Oath" is actually played during moments when Squall has to be a leader, such as when he gives the speech before the big fight with Galbadia Garden. (It was definitely on my initial list of 15, hah) This post has been edited by Harlequin on 10th November 2017 22:43 -------------------- |

Won't be the last time I'm wrong in writing one of these. I had to do a lot.

I've heard neither in-game but I'm more familiar with Cid's Theme.
The Oath seems to be a sort of solemn orchestral piece, but I've listened to it a few times now and it doesn't seem to be catching me very well. Cid's Theme, on the other hand, has an extremely strong melody, half expressing a hint of self-doubt and the other half expressing a confident overcoming of that self-doubt. I feel a bit bad about voting against something just because its melody isn't as interesting, but Cid's Theme is just that much better. -------------------- current games (2024-02-19): Fairy Fencer F ADF Pokémon Perfect Crystal finished so far this year: Gato Roboto drowning, drowning New Super Mario Bros. I love both, and they both pluck at my heartstrings, but...goddammit, Cid...

Cid's theme strikes me as kind of generic in its uplifting, heroic tone, and I fail to see how it fits Cid specifically. The Oath, on the other hand, has a bittersweet tone that I find more moving.
