Head bodyguard to the Princess? Absolutely.

Well, she's certainly a lovely swordfighter and I can't fault her for deserving one on that end, but to make the image worthwhile, it'd have to be done earlier than STQ is available. That'd just leave a player with two scenarios: having an behind-kickin' she-demon who ciphons the difficulty in early chapters OR an outlet to steal her sword a la equipment-stripping, which is kinda the same thing -- who doesn't steal from Gaffy, Alma, etc. while they're guests?

A short quest in Chapter 3 or 4 could work, though, and STQ is a sword I've always enjoyed. Since it's not Chaos Blade-tier brokenness, I'd usually give one to Meliadoul or Beowulf...it does kinda fit their style. It mostly because of the power/effect that I think it fits Agrias, not really the name.

In a ceremonial sense, she could have had a Save the Queen.

In gameplay sense, it would utterly break the game. Save the Queen is over twice as powerful as the swords that can be obtained while Agrias is in the party initially, meaning that her Holy Sword attacks could easily become one-hit KOs at that point of the game to anything but fully-armoured Knights and some monsters.

Even worse would be if a player was unfortunate enough to pass the Save the Queen to Gafgarion, whose greater power would allow him to inflict greater damage with his Dark Sword ... and utterly devastate the player party when he betrays the party.

So I don't think giving Agrias an overpowered weapon would be suitable, at least for gameplay purposes.

Good point Lily, at that point in the game STQ would be pretty broken.

Although, you do eventually get one from Meliadoul when she joins up.
. For story purpouses, it would have been appropriate.

From a storyline/non-gameplay standpoint, I absolutely agree that she should have been given at least Save the Queen; however, I have to agree that from a gameplay standpoint, it would simply muck things up balance-wise.

It would have certainly been a great idea to give an additional knight sword to the party, as only two are obtainable for use in regular game-play--Excalibur and Save the Queen.

One Ragnarok is easily obtained, but is only available for the final battle. An additional Save the Queen, Excalibur, and Ragnarok as well as the Chaos Blade can be obtained in Deep Dungeon, but they are near-impossible to obtain without guides. Defenders are only obtained by stealing them from Meliadoul or Dycedarg in the battles against them, or rare poaches from the Taiju.
A Defender as a reward for the battle in which you first see one (long before you get the Save the Queen and Excalibur) would have been a welcome reward.

Of course, it could just be that the Hokuten are cheap... the semi-generic Knights that are with Agrias have poor equipment even for that point in the game.

Yeah, she really should have been given StQ. As mentioned above though, it's way too strong for that point, although I do think they should've introduced some Knightswords earlier in the game with less WP and none of the Auto Buffs.

I've always seen it like this:

Defender -> Delita
Save the Queen -> Agrias
Excalibur -> Cid
Ragnarok -> Vormav
Chaos Blade -> Gabranth (Chaos Blade is one of his swords in FFXII, so it wouldn't be too farfetched to believe it somehow got to Deep Dungeon- but that discussion is for another day.)

Interesting thinking point. As for ruining the gameplay, Agrias really isn't that powerful compared to the other special characters, and the game doesn't "level up" with you, anyways. The computer is only at level 60 or so even in the final story line battles.

Yeah, that's an interesting point. There's really no need for all of the Knight Swords to be ridiculously OP, they could have certainly crafted one for Agrias to use in the early parts of the plot to befit her status while not breaking the game any more than using her already does.

Of course, while she has an important role politically, the deeper politics of Ivalice during the War of the Lions era certainly explains why she's not completely loaded for bear, as becomes more and more obvious as the plot progresses.

She is cheated in Physical Attack power. I'd rather have that buffed over having one weapon. It's the stat responsible for her Holy Sword to dish out damage. I love changing Agrias to a Knight with Holy Sword as secondary for that reason.

I've experimented enough though.
