Weapons Special Effects

Im new here n first I jus wanna say that CoN is awsum. Mad props 2 the creators. now, the question is this. Im playin FF1 on NES for the first time n my W. Wiz has a heal staff n my Knight has an ice sword but the special effects that theyre supposed 2 have dont seem 2 b workin. Am i jus not noticing it or do i have 2 activate them sumhow?

That being said, you do have to use the items for them to be effective. For items that cast spells (such as the heal staff) go to the "item" menu and select the item. On the other hand, items which are effective against specific groups of monsters (such as the ice sword being effective against fire monsters), you merely have to attack with the weapon.

Actually, the presumed effects of those weapons, i.e, Ice Sword effective against fire monsters, didn't work in the NES version. They were fixed in the later versions, however.

Ah I see. Sorry bout the abreviations though. just habit. Ya both the weapons are equiped and i just could not get them to work but I just tried selecting them from the Item menu during a battle and the Ice Sword did nothing but the heal staff worked. I just thought that their special effects would occur upon striking an enemy with the weapon. Thanks though.
