I'm going to resurface from some serious lurking/MIA due to exam/work/career rubbish to ask...anybody interested in running the Barclays Fantasy again?

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

Also, any comments on the current transfer mayhem...

Personally, as a United fan I'm already wondering how well Moyes is going to fare against Mourinho in the mind games stakes - especially given the farce currently surrounding Wayne "I want to be the centre of attention even though I've done nothing to earn it lately" Rooney.

I'm interested! I got third last season and I know exactly where I went wrong.

I'm absolutely buzzing for the start of the new season. Can't wait. I'm thinking Moyes will win the league following a period of second place, and then everyone will compare him to SAF.

Are you happy Moyes went to United? To be honest I'm delighted. Don't think there's a single better manager out there for what he needs to do at the club. I'm a neutral in England, generally, so I like clubs being as good as they can be. Oh, and in Europe I want every British team to do as well as possible because the only thing worse than an arrogant Englishman is an arrogant Spaniard or Italian, so pro-Utd in that respect.

I am happy, yeah. My initial reaction was disappointment, as Mourinho was floating about at the same time and would have been a far more exciting appointment. But then when the air had cleared and I actually thought about it, I realised that Mourinho at United would have been a disaster, long-term. He'd have had a couple of sensationalist seasons, completely overhauled the establishment, and then moved on; leaving a lot of pieces to be picked up.

Comparatively, Moyes is very much a spiritual successor to Fergie - smart, sensible, composed, and a solid long term investment. I agree, it may take a couple of seasons without trophies before he finds his feet, but I believe that for the long-term future and preservation of United's 'personality', Moyes was the only possible appointment.

I fell off the track last season because it seemed like nobody was around to talk about it. Are you guys actually around now? I think if we could get at least five or six, fantasy would be worth doing.

With regards to the silly season, I'm pretty tired of it. How could I not be? Every day I have to try to work out if Suarez is stupid or just surrounds himself with stupid people. I think Liverpool's moneyball tactics are looking like they're maturing nicely now, though, overall.

As you well know, I have little love for United. I don't really wish them ill, because I just don't really feel that way about sports (Fernando Torres being an exception). I would be just fine, though, if they could have a couple mid-table years just to calm down the bandwagoners. The bandwagon fans are the ones I can't stand.

I'm really intrigued by Chelsea. I'd love to see them go down in flames, of course, but I just can't decide whether I think that's more likely or whether they're going to just demolish everyone this year.

What are your early picks for top four? Honestly, I think it will probably be the same as last year, just maybe in a different order. :\

I'm on here at least once every two days and I look at everything that's posted. The thing is I just don't have a lot to say in most of the topics, either because I don't play the same old and new JRPG-type games as most posters, or that I don't know enough about the FF games that are being mostly discussed. Football, on the other hand...

There will be a season where Liverpool quality for the CL again. I think they'd be demolished in Europe at the moment though. Not because of the quality of players or managers but because they let in too many goals. In the league it's fine to lose goals if you're scoring as many as Liverpool are. In Europe they won't score as many and get trounced 3-0 by Ajax or someone like that. Anyways England will get a 5th CL place at some point, maybe that will be when Liverpool get back in. Either the CL will get bigger or there will be more qualifiers knocking more lesser teams out. There's just so much money in English, Italian, Spanish, German and now French football that they're going to have to sooner or later.

This year I'm guessing the top 4, in order, will be Man U, Chelsea, City then Tottenham. I actually think that Moyes will take the top spot because the squad is phenomenal, young, and he's got the same hardiness that Utd needed under SAF to grind out the season. Chelsea don't have the consistency for the league at the moment. City are in danger of losing too much game-winning quality that hasn't been replaced. Spurs for 4th because I think they'll keep Bale and get one or two more strikers. Already they could take 4th with luck, but I think after the summer and January they'll have it all. Don't get me wrong, Arsenal could easily end up 2nd or 3rd, I'm just thinking that this season is the one where they drop out of top 4. It's hard to say.

Crystal Palace are already down. There I said it. They could start the season with 10 points and they're still down. Nonetheless Holloway's back at the top!!!

Well, I've been pretty non-existent for the last month or so, I'm afraid, but at this point I should have enough time to at least keep up with a fantasy league, if nothing else.

I'm really hoping Spurs nail a CL spot this year, and Arsenal for the 4th spot behind United and (sadly) City. City and Chelsea I want to see crash and burn, though in my heart I know they'll both be top 3.

Palace are gonna struggle, but purely because of Holloway I hope they survive, because by gods I love that man.

As for United hitting mid table - it's a long shot given the strength in the team, but it could happen. And if it does, it does. I think Moyes will need time to settle in, and if that costs us a couple of years, well so be it. The only real reason I don't want it to happen is because Mourinho will b the world's worst winner about it...

With Liverpool, they've genuinely been doing so badly in recent years that I've lost the will to wish them ill, so it would be good to see them challenge again. However, what they're doing rejecting £30 million for Suarez, I'll never know. If Arsenal are stupid enough to buy a dog that repeatedly bites its faithful master, Liverpool should have jumped at the chance. Given his attitude, poor conduct and general knobbishness, Suarez isn't even worth £20 million, and you'd do good to get rid and replace.

I would be up for it again! Got first last season so I think I would have to defend my title wink.gif

I think Chelsea will probably win the title this year, they've got Jose Mourinho back and have a very good squad. Their midfield is great, and depending on if Lukkaku turns out a good striker (or if Torres ever regains his top form), then Chelsea's activity in the final third will be devastating. I don't see Man U doing quite as well this year, as I don't think Van Persie will repeat his goal scoring feats, Rooney is apparently unhappy with the club, and SAF is out. Moyes was an excellent manager during his time at Everton, but I am skeptical of what he can accomplish his first season at ManU.

As for Suarez, I think he would fit amazingly at Arsenal. I think he is among the top forwards in the world, and if he didn't have his stupid antics on the pitch, he would definitely be the top goalscorer in the Premier League. This is why he's so highly valued at Liverpool; his quality is top notch. Being an Arsenal supporter, I really hope Wenger digs some cash out of this supposed 'war chest' of his and gets Suarez, though I feel like Liverpool won't sell for under fifty million. Maybe I am just pessimistic still because of all the Higuain nonsense..

In other news, apparently Real Madrid have bid 100 million Euros for Gareth Bale, and Tottenham have rejected the bid. It's silly to even bid that much, and maybe even sillier to reject that bid. Man I can't stand transfer season...

That was hilarious. Love it. Would like to see if it was in or not though, I'm not sure the whole ball was over. Anyway, glad they gave it!

The league this year is panning out quite well. I thought Man U would be doing a bit better however from the start to their season I think they're about on par with what is expected of them. Winning in Europe, drawing with Chelsea, and losing to the usual suspects of Liverpool and City. Think if they'd won against Chelsea the fans and media would be happier. I still think they'll win the title this year to be honest!

Spurs are looking awesome. Some of those players are incredible. I particularly like Chadli, he's been underrated for so long but I think he's one of the best wingers in the league right now. He's stronger than most and just as fast, with a killer touch. I'm expecting big things.

At the other end I'm surprised they booted out Di Canio so quickly, like everyone else it seems. It could be a stroke of genius from the chairman if they only brought him in to give the team a shot in the arm to avoid relegation, then sack him in the next season. I don't think so though. I don't think they'll be relegated. As usual in the league it only takes a run of form of maybe 5 games to avoid the drop.

Figure it's better off here than a new topic, but the draw for the Euro 2016 qualifiers was today. England, Wales, and Northern Ireland actually have okay groups IMO.

Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, however, have each other. And Germany.

Also Poland, Gibraltar, and Georgia.

Well, that's us Scots humped again unless we can scrape into a play-off spot, even with 23 qualifying spots open. Anyone else got any observations?

I actually think Scotland have a decent chance. There are definitely some beatable teams in their group and the top two automatically qualify as well as the best third placed team. I think it's their best chance in a while.

I really forgot there was a thread on this. Too much has happened since I last posted in it to try to sum up, but here are a few quick bullet points.
  • This World Cup could be a real cracker if it doesn't go haywire. You have to think Brazil looks good right now, especially as the host nation.
  • The EPL is insane. I love how tight the title race is and how with ten to play Liverpool might actually have a chance with a couple six-pointers coming up.
  • On that note, schadenfreude for Manchester United. I'll not twist the knife further.
  • It's MLS opening weekend this weekend, and I support the reigning champions. Squeeeeeee!
  • I hate two things about the USMNT right now: one, the lineup they put out against Ukraine today. Glad half those guys will be on the bench at best this summer. Two, their 2014 primary kits. They got even worse once they got names and numbers.
  • I wanted so badly for Cardiff to have good things this year. Vincent Tan might be the most insane owner I've ever seen - I'm half surprised he hasn't tried to suit up himself yet. Maybe he doesn't have enough eights in his birthdate?
  • Please win out, Atletico Madrid.

Cefca: a new thread, or a new fantasy game? I don't know if we had enough CoN people to justify it last year, and I'm not sure we'd have as many this year. A weekly fantasy league is harder to keep running than something like the World Cup league, IMO. We could check interest here, though!

As for a thread, hey, why not? Someone should start one!

A new game of course! There's other fantasy games out there where you only have a few transfer windows throughout the season so there's a lot less effort in playing it.

I could possibly be tempted. Last time I tried to play there was way too much stuff that got in the way, but limited transfer windows might make it more appealing. Or, less, I suppose, but no way to know until we tried. Anyone else out there interested?

I also haven't done it in a few years, certainly not since we last did one here. I doubt we can get many players just from CoN right now, but if anyone starts one up I'll probably try.

I do the Barclays one every year. Happy to set up and post if there's enough interest? We'll have to be quick mind....

There's also an NFL draft style version this year, which looks kinda fun. Harder to implement, though.
