I'm working on my own RPG that is similar in style to FFVI and Chrono Trigger. Below is some information about the game, which I'll update in later posts; comments, complaints, questions, suggestions, compliments, mashed potatoes, and gravy are always welcome--say whatever you think of it. And feel free to ask me to expand on anything.

Name: I haven't thought up a good name for it yet, interestingly. I don't plan for it to be an FF unless Square decides to endorse my idea (which is highly unlikely for several reasons, one being since I wrote the lore of CT different from the lore given in CC).

Graphics: Either:
-2D and similar to the graphics of Chrono Trigger and FFVI, OR
-3D and executed in great detail. But I don't like 3D graphics that much; I would only get them if they're done very well and the player can adjust camera angle.

Plot:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
The first part of the plot is based on some things that have happened in my high school years, the rest of it is more of an idealistic speculation of what some of the people I know will do.
Disclaimer: When choosing and constructing the characters, I DO NOT discriminate on the basis of gender, ethnicity, race, or religion. If anyone should think that's the case, remember that many of the characters are based on real people I personally know.
part1: takes place at Glenn's high school. There's a conflict between some rather snobbish, elitist, arrogant, and impolite debate kids and a larger group of other people who are much more diverse (personality-wise) and kind and sensible. However, these snobs are the best in the school, except for a few from the other group of people, and their disagreeable behavior is condoned (it's rumored that it's endorsed) by the debate coaches. Some open conflict gradually appears, but the main purpose of this part is to introduce most of the main characters and conflicts, if not all. At the end of part1, several of these people from the other group, who have already formed an oppsition party, attack and later defeat these annoying snobs, as well as both the debate coaches, who turn out to have sided with their bad habits all along. One of the enemies vows revenge...
part2: supposedly takes place after the passage of many years (even though sprites will still look the same, and I want to use sprites for that reason--I don't know how my acquaintances will look when they're 35 years old!). Now forgive me for being political here, but I wanted to put this element into the game: those snobs have grown up, of course, and now they don't seem to be as nasty, and many of them, who are politically left-inclined, are the leading Democrats running for US presidency and other offices in the upcoming election. (I have to assume that the Republicans screwd up the last administration in order to explain just this certain of the "debate gangsters", Scott, getting elected president.) When they rise to power in the party, which also includes a number of characters from your group, there is of course a conflict of interest, but the "debate gansters" (who are nicknamed the Superiors, because of their often elitist and snobbish attitude--unless they are dealing with political entities greater than themselves or possessing a needed resource) promise concessions in return, and your characters (who gain the nickname "Romans", for reasons yet unsure) support the Superiors for now (although some Romans express their doubts and fears to some friends). But it turns out that those doubts and fears were justified. Upon becoming elected to the presidency, Scott essentially (somehow!) orders the persecution of the Romans, probably after they speak out against a certain ideas Scott has used in the first few days of his holding office. Of course, a war begins, and Scott, along with Dick (who is the one who vows revenge and is a lot nastier), Nutso, Darren, and others turn the power of the US government against you, while a number of both Democrats and Republicans and people of other parties join you. During this part of the game, you have to invade West Point and the Marine Academy, defend a Roman town from aerial attack, fight your former schoolmates and present enemies on the grounds of your high school, rescue a group of refugees from the coast guard, defend your own base of operations, and take on the CIA, fight in the streets of NYC, and other events. There's a point when a part of the Superiors breaks off and begins fighting both the Superiors and the Romans independently; depending on whether you win a decisive battle, you either get into an alliance with this Wisdom group halfway through part2 or at the end. Anyways, you of course go to the White House for a final showdown with the Superiors, and when you win, you've completed part2, and the Superiors disband and repent. And the peasants rejoiced (just kidding about that).
part3: as of now very undeveloped. Supposedly, Lavos wasn't destroyed; it was only defeated, and now it attempts to rise again by using as its tools of world domination/destruction a certain evil few who in their quest for power seek the assistance of Lavos. You must travel around the world to defeat all of them. After that, paths to hell open to your characters. You must go down to hell and traverse upper hell first, which is EXTREMELY DARN HOT, and whose final boss is Lavos's shell. Then when you walk into Lavos's shell, you climb down into lower hell, which is EXTREMELY DARN COLD. (The temperatures have nothing to do with gameplay, actually.) Here you must defeat six demons to gain six demon keys--Lavos's guts and core; Golbez (who is a bad guy in this game), Kurtz (from the story Heart of Darkness), and Kain; Hitler and Stalin; Lucifer (whose battle is based on Kefka's final battle); Queen Zeal (whose battles are based on the Q.Z. battles in CT); and Death. Then you face the devil himself. There is an optional additional boss after this--you can climb this mountain with extremely tough enemies to reach an extreme challenge called Dayus (think Latin), who takes 25% damage from all elemental attacks and knows the most powerful techniques of almost all 22 elements.

Characters: while you'll end up playing a total of at least 100 different characters, you'll have a main party at the end of the game of I think about 30 characters, from which form teams. I don't know how many people should be on a party, but I think I want 5. But during certain missions you might have 1-6 person teams. I want to adjust the battle screen so that it doesn't have that "bar" of information as in FFs and CT, but rather has the information for individual characters shown somewhere, such as in SMRPG. That way I can pretty much fit as many characters as I want.

battle menu: Fight, Skill, Tech., Combo, Item
Fight: basic physical attack on 1 target with weapon currently held by character (properties may change depending on the weapon)
Skill: Pers., Weap., Summ.
Pers.: choose to use skills unique to that character, such as mug, swdtech, pummel, toss (throw blunt object), dart (throw sharp object), etc.. Personal skills depend on the identity and sometimes the level of the character.
Weap.: choose to use skills unique to that weapon; e.g. the masamune, when used as an item to cause things, can be used as an item from here to cause an air-elemental attack; the murasame has a fire-elemental attack, and spikey gloves have "spiking".
Summ.: summons a chosen creature. Depending on something called "trust" (I haven't a good idea for its algorithm yet) you might be able to have the creature appear, do its attack, and leave, or you might be able to have that creatures as an extra ally. If the latter happens, no character in your group can summon another creature until the first one is either recalled or is KOed.
Tech: choose to use elemental techniques. They are based (mostly) on special attack and defense stats, while Fight is based on physical attack and defense stats. There are 22 elements, and each element has a number of different techniques associated with it. Some techniques have two elements, too. The elements are:
1 undifferentiated, 2 fire, 3 water, 4 electricity, 5 life, 6 ice, 7 fighting, 8 poison, 9 ground, 10 flying, 11 psychic, 12 bug, 13 rock, 14 ghost, 15 dragon, 16 dark, 17 metal, 18 magic, 19 air, 20 light, 21 sound, 22 star
examples: Fire Orb is a 2nd-order fire-elemental attack. Psych is a 1st-order psychic elemental attack. Virus is a 2nd-order life/poison-elemental attack.
The elements are used to calculate damage against a target, depending on whether a target is weak to, strong against, resistant to, or none of the above to a given element. Each person (i.e. characters and a number of enemies) can have 1 or 2 elements, and generally learns techniques of that element/those elements. But people can learn techniques of other elements.
Combo: some people can use combinations of skills and techniques to have more powerful attacks. Combos are unique to the characters that can use them, unlike techniques. E.g., only Erin, Steph, and Jessica can together use Water Blast, and even though Water Blast only needs 3 Water Guns, and Suliman knows Water Gun, he can't use Water Blast with Erin and Jessica.
Item: use an item.

I apologize for the extraordinarily long post.

This is VERY well though out. It will deffinitely be a winner if a were to play it. the only things i might change is the fact that there are so many elements because of the fact it sounds like a pokemon game. this is a VERY good design though. With tiny changes I would endorse you if I worked for Square

I actually adopted and remade Pokemon's type system for my elemental system because Square has never had (to my knowledge) an elemental system more useful than just categorizing some enemies and occasionally characters. The closest they came, to my knowledge again, was in CT when they said water and fire were opposed as were shadow and lightning. But although Magus was shadow-elemental and Crono was lightning-elemental, Magus's DarkMatter didn't seem to do any more damage than usual, and nor did Crono's Lightning 2.

Let me point out that while monsters and enemies have their own skills, they cannot be learned (should I change this?) because they are unique to the monster. But for techniques and combos, ALL characters (good and bad) and monsters share the same pool of techniques and combos. The solar beam, illuminaire, dark energy, star crash, hydro pump, dark star, virus, gamma ray, earthquake, etc. that you use on your enemy could very well be used by your enemy against you if your enemy knows that given technique. This is to prevent a problem that's in many square games, but especially in SMRPG, where your enemies can't do any specials that you can do, and you can't do any specials your enemies can do. Admittedly, I got the idea from Pokemon, but it's because I think it's a good idea.

And I plan to have NO instant death attacks--the closest you get are guaranteed-9999-damage attacks, which can only be used on 1 target at once and are used ONLY by monsters late in the game.

There are allusions to and/or cameos from FFIV, FFVI, FFVII, Pokemon, CT, Star Fox 64, Metroid, and possibly other games. This includes music tracks.

Glenn, this is obviously very well thought out. I enjoy the storyline because it is very non-traditionel. The battle system is cool but it reminds me of Ct a little too much. (i shouldn't speak though because my game emulates Golden Sun for the GBA alot). Good Luck and keep up the good work.

this is very well thought out, and has a lot of potential.

the only problem i found however was setting, if you notice square tends to stay away, from current day and age, so if you could find a way to get a more 1600's
setting. the game could be great.

I have an RPG maker and a lot of great ideas. The problem I have is taking those great ideas, and figuring out how to use the RPG maker...

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
My favorite idea involves main characters such as Stone Cold, The Rock, John Cena, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Undertaker, ect, and originally having them fight through the WWE's bad guys as individual wrestlers on a mission to destroy Vince McMahon, but then a forein power begins World War III, and the good guy wrestlers get captured by an invading army, where they have to break out and unite. The find and fight the enemy's leader, but it turns out he's not from this planet, and had mearly come to obtain frozen parts of the lord of evil (Not the Undertaker) so he can be re-animated, ect, ect....

Basically, it becomes a regular RPG, but I hope to fix that...

My remake of FFIV is going to be better because the battling system will either be Seiken Denetsu or Chrono Trigger. But Agree with making more elements and have them with diverse attack advantages.

I hope you didn't mean your game will be better than Glenn's. Dude, you need a serious attitude adjustment if that's what you meant.

Glenn, great idea. I like the idea that you've got. The setting needs no adjustment. You can probably get Capcom to create it because I have a feeling Square won;t do it unless they plan on making a new series. I can literally picture it now with the 2D graphics and battle system to similar to CT'. Great Job!

blink.gif 300 characters! woah, thats way to many for me, and a group of 30? How much story is this going to have? Kill that, (30 characters assault 'that' and rip it to pieces). Sounds alot like just a hack and slash to me....although the battle mechanics might work for it. *shrugs*

i have ideas for games often. most are not marketable but a few are gems one was of an first person RPG whare you are a member of a battle-lance (think like the clans in mechwarrior without the mechs) and you pick skills from lists at the start one major, two minor, 5 mediocre and one special for each of the four or five characters avialable at the start . major skills are things like piloting aircraft, computer hacking, weapon smith, theif(not in the FF mug way more subtle),soldier etc minor skills are things like rifle expert(auto aim bonus with rifles) medic(bonus with med-kits), demolitions expert(bonus with grenades etc) close combat skills etc mediocre skills are things that tag on to the major skill like say the abillity to hack a certain type of computer or hot wire a type of car every time. picking some skills blank out others EG if you pick soldier so you can use any weapon(yes any- you just might not use it like it supposed to be used wink.gif ) you can hack computers you just cant use the garanteed hack of a certain type of comp like the hacker.you would get skills like door breaching( being able to kick in most doors) and extra auto aim bonuses on certain weapons or types of weapons.

for the vehicals and weapons im thinking that you should be given a budget to buy them and that when you own them you can customize them (if someone on the team has the right skill) so a jeep added and some scrap metal is an armoured car a machine gun and a grenade launcher/flamethrower/shotgun becomes a combi-weapon that can fir either of the two.

Farsnik: I will have about a total of 50-70 playable characters (I revised my plans), and teams are up to 6 characters each, depending on the part of the game. There are multi-team scenarios.

Cazboab--that reminds me of some RPGs I found on some "online arcade" sites. Reminds me of D&D, although making them as computer games seems (from my experience) to be a bit boring.

I hope the mods don't consider this an unfavorable double post, since (1) my last post was over two months ago, and (2) I would like to use this thread to get suggestions on the game that I'm using (and I'd rather not start a new one just to ask for suggestions on something like the name of the game).

So my question now is: what do you think I should name this game? I can't come up with a satisfactory name for it, and then I saw Strife543's game and he just came up with a brilliant title. So what do you think I should call this?

Wow, u came up with all that!? Thats just... Wow, seriously i wish i had a storyplan all written out it would make things waaaaay easier. And ur even asking my help for the title ^-^ Im honered! Lemme think here, this may take a few days, that ok? If i have time to think i can come up with a very nice title for ya. By the way, u mentioned certain cameos in ur game didnt u? Well, in alot of your posts u mentioned Super Mario RPG (An excellent RPG) so may i suggest adding a few cameo's from that? If ur making this on RM2K then it shouldnt be to hard to get character sets for it, (And there are already sets for Mario) I like this idea, realistic and fantasy = the perfect combo! This game will go very far indeed.... Now *sits down to do extensive thinking about the title* this could take awhile.... ^-^

Edit: I'll be thinking of more than just these ones but tell me what you think,
theres "Seeds of Evil" and "Hearts of Chaos", not some of my better titles but keep in mind im thinking at like 11:14 and my creativity is losing its touch at the moment, lol

I decided to make it a true FF, by including a Cid, Chocobos, a main character dying, character-class-like ability groupings, etc., and I thus decided to give it a very obvious name:

Final Fantasy: Alternative Reality.
