I'm completely new to FF4, I've only been playing it for a week and I've reached the second crystal in... I don't even know the name! The place with the monks and you find out that Kain's fighting against you. Well, I've been playing purely as Cecil for the game so no-one else is over level 10.

I was wondering if it's possible to beat Kain at this bit. He damaged me by 3000+, which wasn't pleasant but I'm sure I could beat him at level 99. Has anyone done this?

I haven't tried, but i've thought about it. I play FF4A more often, so when i get a cheat cartridge, i'll put his level to 99 and try it.

The town is Fabul
You might want to level up everyone.
And I heard somewhere that they gave him an insane amount of HP to make the fight impossible

Please try not to give anything away... but do I have to? Is there any point in the game where Cecil is not available? (The fight between the Bard and the Sahagin-like thing was actually really difficult for me.

The only reason I'm doing this is that I know from FF experience that one single brilliant character is all that's needed to complete the game and fight the hardest secret enemies.
Plus it's much more fun.

Unless I am mistaken, you're Okay with doing that to CEcil. Just so you know, though, there are some scripted battles, like the one between Tellah and Edward. most of them are just for plot, and they play themselves out. With the Kain fight, its strictly for plot, so I dont think that it is possible.

If he does have masses of HP (not infinate) i'd really like to see what happens. I'm at level 40 in the... bit... when you get stopped by the old man... and are carrying the summoner... So there is hope of level 99! If my defense keeps increasing, put him in the back row, do some nice attacks, I reckon I could have a chance at beating Kain - if it is possible.

You're Lv.40 and barely at Kaipo? That's really good. I've never dedicated that much time to leveling up so early in the game.

Yeah im pretty sure you cant beat kain but if you did somehow manage to do it theres a good chance that you could glich the game and it would freeze. It wouldnt be permanent but it would be rather inconvinient especialy if you didnt save.

Even if you DID save it's still be pretty inconveniet since you'd have to save Fabul all over again. One of the most annoying parts of the game.

Yeah but I'm quite a committed player so I could do it again as many times as needed. I'd really like to try it. I deleted my save that far in the game to continue leveling up Cecil in the cave. Is there any items, etc that could be useful against him? I mean like an item for barrier/haste etc. I've got an Hourglass which I suppose would give me an advantage. Me, not being an experienced FF4A player, needs help in this area.

I really can't recommend training Cecil and only Cecil.... You'll get schooled in a few of the upcoming dungeons if you do so (especially in a certain cave where Cecil's equipment doesn't work so well...). Is it so hard just to level up your characters normally?

OK I've been untruthful. I've actually played the game up until the summit of Mt.Ordeals, but the game crashed when I began to fight the guy (changed form) and I did all that easily with Cecil. I'll continue just as him to get easier levels for Kain.

As for beating Kain, I could attack while he's on the ground in front row then back row/heal once he's in the air. I know you're meant to lose - that's why I'm trying to win. I want to see what happens even if it does result in the game hanging.

The reason I'm only leveling up Cecil is because of the Kain fight - and anway, why's it matter so much that I'm only using one character? I've done it before and I'll do it again.

WHic is why I said to level everyone up. Their are quite a few dungeons that wil PWN you if you don't watch yourself.

Why don't you just beat the game the 1st time, and then try the 2nd time. Or have 2 different save files? That's a bit much just to try to beat Kain if you ask me. Especially with the unavailible healing stuff, magic stuff, and no good weapons. If you win, then good job, but personally, I spent all that time going through FF4A to check out the secret stuff.

Edit
Besides, I sure someone has hacked the game to see if their is any special script that you see if you win *looks hopefully at Silverlance*

Yeah I see what you mean. If someone played FFVII for the first time and only went Cloud I'd tell them not to, although I've done that myself. It's just now that I'm confident enough at FF games to go as a single character. On my old save where I made it to Mt.Ordeals, I was purely Cecil - on a lower level than I am now at the start (30) - and it was easy. Really easy. Nothing hurt me. That's why I'm happy to level Cecil up for the real fights, such as Kain (and Odin/Bahumet I hear).

I genuinly believe that Kain is unbeatable. His attacks go from 100ish to 3000. I speculate that they'll carry on increasing until 9999 - making him invicible. If that's the case - fair play to him. If not - game on.

Edit
I didn't want to double-post but this is important... I've tried it once with Cecil at level 80 (thank god for increased speed). Eh, I wasn't ready at all and lost, except many of his attacks missed. I'll get to level 99 today and see if I can fight him well.

The game is great to go through, but I can see the temptation of playing through a game where you ramp up the difficulty in a SCC while simultaneously not knowing what's coming around the corner. If you get trashcanned, well, that's the game. I can see the fun, though.

I'm not sure about that. I don't usually do this... but I'm tempted to put the Inf. HP code on in order to beat him. I saw on another forum that he has 10 million HP. So what happens if I get through that? I don't expect a change in the game, but it might glitch or something. That would be funny.

I've heard stories that people have beaten Kain in that battle.
From what I've heard, his attack goes up and he gets ALOT faster after you bring him down to a certain point. You're going to need to fill your inventory with all kinds of Potions.
He has 65 thousand (whatever the number for the Hex max is) HP, and after you kill him, it plays out exactly as if he killed you.

I wouldn't reccomend only going with one character. FFIV balances itself out pretty well so that the entire party is necessary, and it's never easy enough to where you can use only one character. Once you get later in the game, and the monsters catch up to your power-levelling, you're not going to be doing so well. I've gotten the final party to level 99, and some of the final dungeon monsters still take quite a few turns.
It's really going to suck for you a few dungeons from now when monsters start dishing out more and more status ailments.
And when you finish Mt. Ordeals. Haha.

Edit
And also, the Inf. HP code makes bosses have Inf. HP as well, iirc

Ah, Dark Paladin that's interesting. None of it comes as a suprise to me though. I'm on level 99 and I've come too far to level up the others now. I suppose when he goes back to level 1 I could level the others up.

Yes Kain's attack does increase massivly. I'm still playing legit at the moment, and this is the usual sequence of events...

Cecil - Attack (1000)
Kain - Jump (miss)
Cecil - Attack (1000)
Kain - In air
Cecil - Defend
Kain - Jump (1500)
Cecil - X-Potion
Kain - In air
Cecil - Attack (1000)
Cecil - Defend
Kain - Jump (3000)
Cecil - Attack (1000)
Cecil - Defend
Then I die with his next Jump.

If I had more X-Potions things would be different... I've had to fight SO many battles for the Hi-Potions I've got.

I don't have any proof to back it up, but I've also heard this a few times. Basically, if you Game Genie the game to the point that Cecil can beat Kain, the script plays out as if Kain beat you anyway.

Actually, the story will play out regardless if you beat him or not. It happens in the other FFs that have these 'impossible' battles. (Knights at the beginning of FFII), or just reset the battle (Nepto, Bahamut). Still, it'd be pretty cool to see him die. xD Well, at least in the original game anyway. (I wouldn't know if they changed it for the GBA version, but I wouldn't know why they would.)

Where's that serial killer at now?

What? You mean me? Or Cecil? Or what?

I've still not beaten him... but I've been away for a few days so I couldn't play it anyway. Yeah I'd love to see him die; it'd be very satisfying. The 65000 hp sounds beatable so I'll continue to give it my best shot. After all - I'm not going to waste all the time I spent leveling up in that annoying cave.
