As Ker remarked on a different thread, different people see the characters, Kefka in particular, differently in their minds. Some see Kefka as really effeminate with lots of makeup, while others see him as really ugly and freaky with lots of makeup. Somehow, I never imagined him with makeup at all. The little sprite didn't really show anything so unusual, so I just imagined him looking normal and acting crazy. When I saw the Anthology opening, I didn't even recognize him. My brother seemed to know him instantly, and described him as a clown like just about everyone, I'm sure. What weirded me out about this fact is that he doesn't even hang out with FF fans. But as with all of the characters from the 2D era, everyone envisions them differently.

Edgar and Sabin always had really gentle faces in my mind.

My image of Terra somehow managed to resemble Mikasa, before I ever even read Attack on Titan; and for a long time I thought she had a side ponytail.

Locke always looked kind of like my brother; tall, with dark hair. Actually, he looked just like Flynn Rider; again, before I ever saw Tangled.

Celes always seemed really cute, with thick yellow hair. The little blue clips looked really cutesy, and the hair didn't look as long to me as it is usually portrayed, so she just looked a lot younger.

Relm looks a lot like one of my friends; her hair is short and brown, and a little curly; I never even noticed the hat, so my version of Relm didn't have one. Honestly, I never thought twice about what Strago looks like; but now that I am thinking about it he really looks like Eintein.

There's not much to interptet about Shadow; he's obviously a ninja, and that's that. But in my mind he has a really stocky build.

Mog just looks like a little marshmallow with cat ears.

The others -- Cyan, Gau, Setzer, and Umaro -- are about the same in my mind as they are to most others, I think.

And I don't care what anyone says, GoGo is a dude.

I've always seen Kefka as wearing heavy makeup. More than ugly, I saw him as scarred, both mentally and physically. I imagine him as using heavily-caked makeup to hide what he truly is. The reason I've believed that is is Dancing Mad form. His outward appearance is elegant, angelic, but underneath he is troubled, wounded, nihilistic. The citizens in the Capitol in the Hunger Games remind me a lot of what Kefka looks like in my mind. Not ugly, but superficial-looking, plastic, trying to cover up flaws.

I absolutely feel the same Maybe it's the big eyes on their sprites, but I never saw them as they look in their menu pictures. I see them both as gentle, innocent.

I agree with that. Maybe it's the stocky build, but I can't even see Gogo as a woman.

Hm.. Let's see.

After I got into FFVI again, this is how I pictured most of these characters. I'm going to try to do them in order of appearance, from memory.
Terra I always saw with green hair, and big blue eyes. She looked really innocent and slightly day-dreamy.

Locke was always a gray-haired guy, and he reminded me of my big brother Jack (he's albino, so I made a connection.) When we play the game together, I always call him Locke and he calls me one of two names, one which annoys me.

Edgar always had a thin, grim face, one that I imagine he tried to cover up with false smiles. He always seemed worried, and I felt like he was just flirting for the sake of acting like he wasn't. Running a kingdom is hard work!

Kefka... I always imagined him as very pretty, but wearing white-face and other make-up over that. I remember thinking he had a red-and-yellow feather in his hair on the... Left side? I remember thinking all that make-up was to hide something other than physical flaws...

Sabin was a muscle man, but one who was counter-point to his brother in that he almost never worried, and all his smiles were real. I always thought he'd have a more childlike face than his brother.

Shadow reminded me of Boomerang from Wild ARMS, another beloved RPG from my childhood.

Cyan was always a more gentle looking man, someone who could be depended on. I also see him as a father figure to Gau.

Gau was a cutie smile.gif I always saw him in a dirty yellow sweater with shorts and red shoes. He always seemed to look curious or mischievous.

Celes was basically a less wimpy Cinderella in my mind. She had all the elegance, but strength to back her up.

Setzer had long, white hair. He had sad-looking eyes in my mind. I always saw him with black lipstick, weirdly enough...

Leo was never a black guy to me (after all, his spite looks more peach) so there's that. He had big blue eyes in my opinion, and that blonde mohawk was to try and spike up his masculinity. I grew to like him rather quickly.

Relm was always that blonde little girl with a cute beret and big blue eyes. I always thought she was a bit two-faced, though.

Strago reminded me of my grandpa.

Mog was not just a moogle, but the MOST ADORABLE of all the moogles. I shamelessly named him after myself, heheh...

I see Celes as being older than she actually is. Because she's a general, I assumed she had to be mid-20s at least, more like thirty-something. I was surprised when someone on another thread said she's only 18.

Otherwise, I have no strong images of the characters, although I agree that Gogo is a dude.

This is always interesting. Most of these descriptions are fairly accurate, but there are a few things I don't like about the way they are portrayed in the official stuff.

I see Locke as more of a young Harrison Ford. Square jawed, probably a little 5 o'clock shadow, and kind of a cocky smirk on his face.

Edgar and Sabin I kind of see as looking somewhat Lombard. Blonde hair, and statuesque faces. Edgar has a slender figure with strong and lean hands and fingers, which he foppishly softens. Sabin his a hard, bulky body with hard, calloused hands.

Terra I see as flawless in appearance. Her hair is mostly blond, but has kind of a sea-green tint to it, and has bright green and gold colored eyes.

Celes, in true JRPG fashion, has to be a teenager, or else she'd be "old" for a girl. She's almost regal looking and athletic. As a swordswoman, she is lithe and tends to dress more as a fencer, with a white cape covering her otherwise over-exposed parts. She acts more experienced than a 19 year old girl, probably akin to a 28 or 29 year old woman.

Cyan is probably the one I like the most appearance wise. He's El Cid meets Miyamoto Musashi. The old chivalrous knight with the salt and pepper hair and the greying handlebar mustache. Believe it or not, he's actually slightly younger by my estimation than his 50 years.

Leo Christophe- We sadly don't see much of this guy. He seems to be the striking figure of Audie Murphy and Sir Launcelot du Lac. Or, maybe even Captain America.

"So, are you a fan of the Fett?"

"Nah, I'm more of a Star Wars guy."

Ahh. I know what you mean about that.
In Dissidia, Terra didn't look at all like I imagined her. I actually didn't recognize her at all... It wasn't until somebody called her Terra that I out two and two together.
I recognized Kefka immediately, but I'll freely admit I was disillusioned with his design. It wasn't so much that he looked his age (35) as it was it looked to me like he'd lost his mirror and just smeared on his makeup, hoping nobody'd notice.
And that his eye color went from blue to green, he no longer had a ponytail, somehow he has pointy ears now even though he's clearly put across in FFVI as a human, etc...

Oddly for me, the FMV came out so early on in my life that it define most of how I thought the characters looked.

On the topic of Terra, though, Dissidia makes me a bit angry. The depict her as a tiny waif with no strength beyond her magic. I always kept her around as a heavy hitter, imagining an hourglass figure with broader shoulders to back up that sword arm. And don't get me started on the voice...ugh...let's be honest here :
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
she raised about a dozen kids plus a pregnant teenager after the end of the world
she is not meek. She can be fine boned and slim, yes, but not meek.

Celes was always a valkyrie to me (despite my distaste of her character development)
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
no strong general, even if the title is decorative, is going to throw herself off a cliff over a GUY and then find a reason to live again because of that SAME GUY
Broad shoulders, lush voice, wide hips and larger in the bust line due to that strong build.

Setzer was slender and somewhat chic despite being older. Very tall and lanky but definitely glamorous despite his scars.

The big one for me was Shadow. I know he's a ninja which usually denotes asian decent, but due to a friend closet cosplaying him, he is now of Nigerian or Ugandan decent in my book. The shape of my friend's face beneath the cowl and mask was so intense and striking that he oozed danger and skill. From that point on Shadow became dark and clever, more stocky than lean and straight-backed as if he'd attended private school. Also, the eyes beneath the blue paint (he used MAC eyeshadow. *swoon*) were so intense due to color and shape, I was HOOKED! Also, he's an amazing DC Joker.
