Biography

Galuf is a bearded, middle-aged man with memory trouble. After Bartz and Lenna find him at the meteor impact site near Tycoon, Galuf insists on tagging along when he learns that Lenna is traveling to the Wind Shrine. Throughout the game, Galuf's memory returns piece by piece, focusing on thoughts of his young granddaughter and his determination not to allow all four crystals to be destroyed. At the Wind Shrine, the crystals identify Galuf with the spirit of earth, Hope.

Galuf has high stamina and HP, and is average or below-average in his other statistics; his Speed is the worst among the playable caracters. This makes Galuf well-suited to frontline jobs like Monk or Knight but also fair choice for low-HP jobs like Black Mage or White Mage that could use a little extra resilience. Still, these character stats are only small advantages and disadvantages and should not necessarily limit characters to particular jobs. Galuf's natural element is Earth, so theoretically in Final Fantasy V Advance his Finisher skill would deal earth damage.

Galuf isn't just some strange old man - he's a strange old alien (sort of)! Galuf Halm Baldesion's not of this world, and the Tycoon meteor was his ship of sorts that brought him to Bartz' world in order to prevent the destruction of the crystals. And furthermore, in his home world Galuf is a king, and one of the original four Warriors of Dawn! Galuf, king Xezat of Surgate, the werewolf Kelger, and Bartz's father Dorgann were the original quartet that sealed the evil Exdeath many years earlier. Sadly, Galuf permanently leaves your party when he perishes at the hands of Exdeath in the Forest of Moore. Do not fear, however, since immediately after his death Galuf passes on all of his experience and abilities to his granddaughter Krile! Of course, it's still sad.
