"Final Fantasy Bronze" Ver 1.11
---------------------------------------------------------

This is a short text file to describe the release of my first
public project. Final Fantasy I is one of my favorite games
of all time, but it was plagued with a cheesy script, ugly
caps, and general slacking off in the translation department.
Having played the game countless times, I took it upon myself
to enhance the script, tailoring it to my personal interpretation
of the storyline, maximize space efficiency, and present FF1 in
a hopefully more enjoyable light.

Revision History:
---------------------------------------------------------

Version 1.00 08/30/00 -- First release.

Version 1.10 09/03/00 -- Reinserted Beholder graphic. Minor text changes.

Version 1.11 09/09/00 -- Project name changed to Final Fantasy Bronze.
                         Script revisions.

Tech:
---------------------------------------------------------

You will need a patching tool such as IPS.EXE or SNESTOOL.EXE to
apply the patch.

Since my Japanese is not even elementary at best, I could not
retranslate the original script, though I have it. I have had
parts of that script translated be various sources, and have
found that Nintendo's translation, while full of annoying caps
locked terms like LIGHT WARRIORS and ORBS, was fairly accurate.
Thus, I decided to expand the in-game text, since, using an
efficient DTE setup, there was more than enough spare room. The
story presented is how I interpret Final Fantasy I in the
macrocosm. I hopefully made the "Time Loop" concept more cohesive,
and added depth to the villain's motive. I've also tried to tie
together various little things, so that the game seems like a full
world rather than a collection of tiny quests.

Programs used to create this patch:
--------------------------------------------------------
Thingy (good, but had some big problems)
PatchROM (EXCELLENT, but has a couple irritating bugs left)
TileLayer (invaluable)
Microsoft Word
NESticle (180 FPS and save state is very helpful when it comes to play testing...)

Goals Accomplished:
---------------------------------------------------------

~ Script rewritten
~ Transformed the "Clinic" back into a Church and restored other censored symbols
~ Weapons retranslated and reinserted
~ Monster names tweaked
~ Located some hard-coded text (VERY elusive) that freed up some space for me

Goals Left:
---------------------------------------------------------

~ Enhance graphics
~ Restore "Beholder" graphic (if I could find a copy of the FF1j ROM...)
~ Expand spell names from 4 to 5 characters. Space in not the problem...ASM hacking
is needed to resize the spell window in battle.
~ Expand weapon and armor names to eight characters. Again, ROM space is not the
problem. Arms and Armor menus truncate all names to 7 characters, and the shop
menus need to be widened by one character.
~ Crack DTE code for use in battle. This is the ONLY way I'll be able to ever
fit the monster names in correctly.
