Ever wanted to revisit a subject you felt that wasn't "done right"? Well, I never was satisfied with "Fall of the Imperial General" http://fav.me/df1obo from the beginning. Really, it's the *third* time around for this subject since the first one never saw the light of day. Anyway, I spent more time/effort this time around on both the lineart and the photoshop coloring. This is great, Kame. I like it more than the original that you posted - in that one, it seems a bit more...I guess friendly? It just screamed 'movie character chained up who will obviously escape.' In your revamped version it really makes the situation seem a lot more dire and I think it works really well. Awesome work!

Yeah, it's really authentic - she looks physically and emotionally beaten.
You don't really think about this sort of thing, given the way that the somewhat effeminate official character art is drawn, but someone who is a general of a large military nation is probably going to be physically fit. Like, very. Something I wouldn't've thought of, but it makes perfect sense, and it definitely challenges the typical videogame girl portrayal - something that needs challenging. And it makes her condition all that more sympathetic: look how far she has fallen. Great!

I would have cropped the image just a bit on the sides, so that the chain links don't just stop. That's a pretty big nitpick, I realize, but it did distract me a bit. Her left hand also seems to fold strangely, as if she has extra joints in her metacarpals.
The heavy shadows and stark background are perfect, particularly in the way they hide some of the detail in Celes' face. I also really like what you did with her hair. Even with my nitpicks, this is miles beyond the original that you showed in your comments.
