CoNQuiz Special Edition:
About the Participants
Here's some clues that might help you along as you try to decipher this set of mysteries. We didn't intentionally throw any red herrings in here, all of the songs are in fact on our overall playlists. But we also didn't want you guys scoring perfect, so we're not making it easy on you. If this isn't enough to go on, don't fret. Fishing in the General Topics forum or chat might get you some blissful clues, too.
Rangers51
As the oldest of the CoN staff participating in this contest, you might think he listens to old music. You'd be right to a small extent, but really he prides himself on being a bit of a music junkie and loves both listening to and enjoying bands that others haven't heard of. Of course, from looking at his playlist, you also might think he's a girl - even he can't tell you why he likes indie chicks so much, particularly when the next song in the shuffle might be loud, fast, and/or with horns. To learn more, try reading up on R51's last.fm tracker.
Zero Hawk
Picture him with long hair and flashing devil horns while he rocks out. If this were 1988. It's not, of course, but the long hair is still there. His rock is hardly hair metal, though; maybe you need to think a bit darker. Some of it's fast, some of it's a dirge, and a fair amount of it we've never experienced by and large. Or at least this author hasn't. Your mileage may vary. Enjoy his selections if you dare. To learn more, try reading up on ZH's last.fm tracker.
Del S
In the CoN yearbook, Del was voted the most likely to become an international arms smuggler. Have you seen Lord of War? He's Cage, not Leto. And he'll appreciate that reference. His song list looks a bit like the soundtrack to an epic battle, too. Just getting him in the proper frame of mind to shoot someone with an airsoft rifle, we assume. Look out for his tracklist, but don't turn your back on this Scotsman to do it. To learn more, try reading up on Del's last.fm tracker.
Karasuman
Can you tell the girls from the boys when you're picking out our music? Not necessarily. She's been known to trade some music tips with R51, but really, who hasn't over the years? She has a bit of a linguistic streak, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider some of those bands or tracks with that funny not-English stuff in there. She's also one of our true gamers here at CoN, don't forget that. Sorry, though, Karasuman doesn't have a last.fm tracker at this time.
Laszlow
He's not the very same from Grand Theft Auto, sorry. It's a little harder than that for you folks, we're afraid. He's a marching band man, and any of you who have ever seen a marching band know they have to play a lot of different stuff. Maybe from the seventies, maybe from the eighties, maybe from movies, maybe from games, maybe who knows what. We can tell you that he's got an offbeat sense of humor, though, maybe that will help you out a bit. Sorry, though, Lasz doesn't have a last.fm tracker at this time.
Kappa the Imp
He's our staffer with roots in the East, but don't expect him to put an album by Rain up here. That's not his style, but thinking Asian isn't totally off base, either. Don't get too hung up on it, though, as he's also been known to go a little bit more punk or even hip-hop. You won't get anywhere from asking his brother, either, so on the tough ones you're just going to have to grit your teeth and try to separate him from R51 and Tommah a bit. To learn more, try reading up on Kappa's last.fm tracker.
FraudulentTommah
He proudly wears his pocket protector, but his music doesn't reflect it. Don't be too surprised to see some pretty experimental music on his list, both from the present and the past. Or maybe some implied cannon fire. Or maybe some big brass... instruments. Maybe he'll even sneak up on you with something you really wouldn't expect at all. It's hard to say, because we can't predict him, the code he writes for CoN, or his music. Enjoy your task here. To learn more, try reading up on Tommah's last.fm tracker.
Elena99
Elena was one of the very first staffers CoN ever picked up, with the most history at CoN of anyone participating in this game (besides, of course, the fearless leader). That doesn't mean her music's all old, though - maybe just some of it. And you can't let the fact that she sings "O, Canada" at hockey game sway you too much, either. Not all of her music is from the Great White North. That also means "not none." Read between the lines people, and do try to keep her separate from Karasuman. They're women, they're not twins. To learn more, try reading up on Elena's last.fm tracker.
Sabin
The most avid musician of our group of ten, he's also one of the ones that has an ear for a wide variety of music. As rock itself has evolved, so has he, so don't be surprised to see some truly classic bands popping up in his list, as well as some who will definitely be considered so as we look back from the future. But he is a gamer, and he's also got his hands into a lot of stuff, so don't limit yourself when you try to guess his tracks. To learn more, try reading up on Bobbo's last.fm tracker.
Mimic
The youngest staffer on our list for this contest, you might think that Mimic would have a less-than-sophisticated taste in music. You'd be dead wrong - you're going to be hunting for bands you've never, ever heard of when you check out his song list. Not exclusively, of course, because he didn't want to make the path too easy for you. Brush up on your bands who are just about to make their breakthroughs into the mainstream, though, and you're going to do alright. To learn more, try reading up on Mimic's last.fm tracker.
