New Square Enix Concert Series Announced

With all of the live music that Square Enix, and in particular the Roth family, have produced over the years, you might wonder what additional concerts we have yet to see. It appears that the answer for now is that we'll get a concert series, called simply ""The Music of Square Enix," that collects music from just about all over the Squenix songbook.

The new website for the series explicitly references music from Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Mana, NieR, and Octopath; this alone could fill a setlist, but naturally the site also says that other series of games will be included too.

So far, fifteen shows have been announced worldwide, with on-sale dates for almost all of the shows in Europe and the United States happening this week. The concert will kick off in Tokyo in April of 2026, then head into the United States in May and June, stopping in Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, and Portland, Oregon. Two shows are also scheduled in Fort Worth in 2027, with a few shows in Asia and Europe in between, which seems to imply that they have quite a few other dates that they would like to fill in other locations too.

Switch 2 Direct Shows Two Square Enix Games

Nintendo's Direct for Switch 2 ran for about an hour, ending just a few minutes ago. This Direct was previously assumed to be mostly about first-party games, particularly those available near the launch window; under that assumption, the number of games presented by third parties was pretty significant.

For Square Enix fans, two titles in particular would be of interest, but neither are new. Bravely Default Flying Fairy was presented as a launch title for Switch 2 on the release date of June 5, 2025; this, the first game of the series, released for the 3DS in 2012. The remaster for Switch 2 will upscale the game and adjust the UI to suit, as well as add some new minigames. The online features from the original have been ported in as well.

Additionally, Squenix confirmed the long-standing rumor that Final Fantasy VII Remake would arrive on the Switch 2. This was not presented as a launch title, as far as I'm aware - the stream had some technical difficulties right before the announcement and I have not yet seen the complete video from that portion, just the audio. The version to be released will be the Intergrade version released for PlayStation 5 and PC, meaning it will include the additional Yuffie content. This of course implies that Rebirth may eventually come to Switch 2 as well, but that was not addressed in today's Direct.

Unfortunately, no announcements for anything Final Fantasy IX today, as many were hoping for - but there's still a few months before we hit that 25th anniversary.

Final Fantasy Concerts Remaining in 2023

I've been remiss for quite a while at keeping everyone up on Distant Worlds (and A New World) dates. However, for the former, the Final Fantasy 35th Anniversary Program has continued apace, and there are eleven future dates coming up across the US, Canada, and Brazil:
Los Angeles, August 13, 2023Cleveland, Ohio, September 9São Paulo, September 28Rio de Janeiro, October 1
Austin, Texas, November 10Montreal, December 3Seattle, January 20, 2024Charlotte, North Carolina, February 3Washington, DC, March 2Hartford, Connecticut, March 23San Francisco, May 31 and June 1The smaller chamber orchestra for A New World currently has only three shows through the rest of 2023:Boston, September 29Cincinnati, October 1San Diego, December 8All shows for both series are available for ticket purchase or preorder right now.

Source: Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds, A New World: Intimate Music from Final Fantasy

New Final Fantasy Piano Concert Series in March

I did a quick search of the site to see if we'd covered this yet, and I haven't seen anyone mention it. It looks like this series started in Europe and Asia and I missed hearing about it then, but now there are 22 dates for this new Piano Concert series already announced for the Western Hemisphere:San Francisco, March 3Los Angeles, March 4Las Vegas, March 5Phoenix, March 6Dallas, March 8Houston, March 9Miami, March 11Tampa, March 12Atlanta, March 13Washington, D.C., March 14Philadelphia, March 15New York, March 17Boston, March 18Montreal, March 19Toronto, March 20Detroit, March 21Chicago, March 22Cincinatti, March 24Kansas City, March 25Minneapolis, March 26Denver, March 27Sao Paulo, Brazil, March 30/31As is my personal luck, no shows within a few hundred miles of me but I will miss one of the shows by only two days with some travel I already had planned.

Tickets for all shows are already on sale; here's a trailer for the concert series that the promoter published recently as well.

Source: Crystalline Resonance Site

Triangle Strategy Releases on Steam October 13

First released in March for Switch, tactical JRPG and Final Fantasy Tactics spiritual successor Triangle Strategy was announced on Tuesday for a Steam release next month. It's currently 10% off for preorders on the Steam store, with three versions available for purchase - standard, digital deluxe, and digital deluxe plus a copy of Various Daylife. The digital deluxe version includes a short digital version of the official art book, the hardcopy of which I recently acquired myself but haven't had time to open and share at all yet.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any demo version listed on Steam just yet. I have to admit that until I was able to play the first three chapters in the Switch demo, I hadn't been fully sold on the game, so I wish that it would be available to PC players as well to try out. As it stands, though, I personally think this is the best game Square Enix have released in years, and I'm personally on my fifth playthrough of it currently. So all in all, I'm thrilled that it's likely to find a larger audience with this upcoming PC release.

Source: Triangle Strategy on Steam

Distant Worlds has just announced a new concert series for the 35th Anniversary of Final Fantasy. Entitled FINAL FANTASY 35th Anniversary Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY Coral, this series will feature a track list specially curated by Nobuo Uematsu. Little else is known at this stage, including what "Coral" represents, and so far no special guests have been announced.
Octopath Traveler Potentially Coming to PC

Still speculative, but it was reported today that the body responsible for age-rating games in South Korea (known as the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea) has given a rating for PCs for Octopath Traveler, the Square Enix Switch RPG. The publisher of record is Bandai Namco, who according to Gematsu regularly act as the Korean-locale publisher for Square Enix games.

There is always the chance that this could be an erroneous listing, but typically news such as this from a game ratings board is always followed by an official announcement or an actual release of a game. Given further that the game was originally developed in Unreal Engine, a PC port seems like an obvious next step as well. Keep your eyes out for more news soon.

Source: Gematsu

New Concert News, Mostly Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally released, and as a followup Square Enix has announced a new Kingdom Hearts Orchestra tour in a number of worldwide locations starting in May. We've talked about the orchestra on the forums before during their previous tour last year, but now there are a lot of new dates for 2019:Singapore, May 18Chicago, June 1Orlando, June 22New York, June 28 and 29Atlanta, September 14Paris, September 28Sydney, October 19Dallas, October 26London, November 17Tickets look pretty pricey for the American shows; a spotcheck says that the lowest cost available is around $80 for a couple cities, and closer to $90 for others. If you're interested, though, tickets for all dates are on sale now.

On the subject of Square Enix music, though, while we're here - A New World announced recently one new date in Seattle on April 27th.

Source: Kingdom Hearts Orchestra Tickets, A New World

Final Fantasy Concerts Add Lots of Shows Worldwide

We're winding down this year, so it's a good time for the folks behind Distant Worlds to add a lot of new shows for 2019. Good news if you're one of our international readers, as most of the new shows being added are outside of North America this time. I'm sure more here in the States and possibly Canada will be coming soon, and there's still one new domestic date that I hadn't seen before, but for now here's a big list of mostly European show additions.Bangkok: December 1 and 2Nashville: January 22, 2019Hamburg: Valentine's Day! Adorable Date Night Opportunity!Berlin: February 15Dusseldorf: February 16Geneva: March 22Milan: March 23Rome: March 24The shows in Hamburg, Geneva, and Rome are new cities for the tour. In Bangkok, Yoko Shimomura is scheduled to attend (remember, Nobuo Uematsu is still recuperating his health). Tickets for all of these shows are on sale now!

A New World has added even more dates than Distant Worlds, in other far-flung locales, particularly in the South Pacific:Christchurch, New Zealand: November 9Auckland: November 10Singapore: November 17Sydney: November 23Brisbane: November 24Adelaide: November 27Canberra: November 29Melbourne: November 30Perth: December 1Los Angeles: February 23, 2019
(with two shows on the date)Atlanta: May 26Tickets for all of these shows are on sale as well; the Atlanta show is included with registration for MomoCon.

Source: Distant Worlds, A New World

Final Fantasy XIV Smartphone Companion App Launches

For gamers out there still enjoying Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix has just released a long-awaited companion app to streamline the gameplay experience. It's available free for both iOS and Android, and provides an app interface to a number of useful features, enough so that it's hard to pick out which might be the best. Players with active subscriptions can chat with other players from the app, organize event reminders and send invites to friends to help plan raids or general gameplay sessions, organize their inventory, and even buy and sell items in the open market and submit bug reports.

Of course, these features are useful mainly to active players, which is why an active subscription is required. However, if your subscription lapses, the app will keep your chat in storage for up to 30 days while you potentially reactivate. Very cool!

Source: Final Fantasy XIV Official Site
