Demon's Souls has to be one of the greatest games ever developed.
Have been playing Dark Souls constantly since release also.
Dark Souls somehow manages to be better than even Demon's Souls.
Very strongly recommend both of these games.

Due to the sheer fact of Two Best Friends Play on youtube, and if you've never seen them:

Demon souls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Be_657JBAI

Dark Souls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ5gLGWcKBY

Unless your up for a good challenge and a difficult game, run far far away from this game.

Haha, thanks for that Tesco - very enjoyable.

Gosh demon's souls takes me hours to just to get through one stage.. being so cautious because the minute I get confident, I get killed.

bwahaha your very welcome sir. It's always good to get the word out about Matt and Pat.

This is the kinda game you could watch your buddy play, but when he asks you "Hey man you want in?" you just look at him and don't say a word.

That said, I am in no way dissing the game. It does look enjoyable, so long as you can handle many deaths and not freak out, and I'd certainly recomend it....But I'm still not playing it

Demon's Souls is a very, very impressive game. Great exploration and loot-hunting, tight controls, crazy-huge boss fights, and an eff-you attitude that makes it clear that this game isn't unfair - you just suck.

Both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls have a nice niche carved out for themselves and I'd like to play more eventually. I'd only cleared three bosses in Demon's Souls (it was a struggle at times to say the least) before I passed it over for a bunch of different games that came out in fall of 2011. I'll revisit it later, probably in the second half of this year.

My buddy recently played through the aforementioned sequel, Dark Souls, a few weeks ago. I sat and watched, as well as running internet research to compare weapons and stuff. While I haven't played Demon Souls, if it's anything like it's sequel, it has to be awesome. The bosses, the mechanics, Blighttown. Ugh. The PVP looked fun too.

I played Demon's Souls a little while after the release, I think a year after. I was in a best buy trying to pick a game without making any research. I was stuck on DS and Call of Jaurez so, I wouldn't be here if I hadn't, brought home Demon's Souls.

I liked it right away. Movement, combat, atmosphere and the challenge. I remember running around swinging my sword, getting a bunch of souls and a little bit of gear. It was great until I died. That was when I realized what this game is all about.

"Prepare to die"

I persevered. Developed a bunch of weapons and fighting techniques based on the enemies. I had a great time learning the mechanics of the game. The walls were actually walls, time to switch from slashing weapons to stabbing. So much to do. So much to find. So much to farm.

I couldn't do all the farming. Some of those drops were just too rare. The highest tier of certain stones, I never saw 1 of them let alone 8 to fully upgrade. I had about 120 hours of single player on a thief that couldn't steal, that was the biggest disappointment.

As for Dark Souls I bought a couple months after release. This was the fun part, my PS3 was not being updated so I went through most of the game without any updates. That meant my lightning spear and weapons were really awesome and I forget the armor but it was Robes of Something that you picked off a corpse near the Ceaseless Discharge monster. I hear they got nerfed.

This game was awesome, just like DS but a little different. Played, adjusted, found some secrets. I cursed curse, blight town and egg head. Worst part of it, but part of it.

I really liked the grind in the game, got the key to the valley with all the shades in it fairly early so I leveled fast. Had fun killing huge mobs and dragons.

I got to New Londo and found myself headed upwards a narrow ledges with archers on either side sending me to the bottom over and over again so I stopped playing.

I stopped playing when I moved away because I had a shitty old TV to play my games on. Surely some of you can understand Dark Souls can't be playing on a 32" box TV with no HDMI. I'm not spoiled, I just don't want to play certain game unless I can get the full out of it. DS is just too beautiful to play on old technology.

I never in the history of my 25 year gaming career threw a controller because of rage until I playing Demon's Souls.

You've summed up the experience rather well, and your thief comment made me laugh happy.gif

You've probably moved on by now, but I can meet you in game give you some of the rarer stones if you want?

I do like real time combat, and sometimes find it hard to get into turn based games.Sometimes i like difficult games, when the fun matches the difficulty. i'll look it up to see its gameplay.I hear a lot of positive feedback.

I might take you up on that but I wouldn't be for a little while. I thought they took down the servers? I have no idea what kind of condition my character is in. Last time I played I was getting into the online and if you remember there was this exploit where someone would drain your souls and such. Game like DS losing 15 or 20 soul levels changes everything.

Geez the exploit removed that many soul levels? sounds devastating.. I've never seen it personally.
Oh of course..the region problem.. I'm on the European servers, which are still up.. yeah this may be an issue.

Demon is PS3 exclusive, many people are of the opinion that it's a milestone on the way to completing the Dark Souls formula.. but it's a fantastic game by itself imo.
Demon is more of a dungeon crawler, you chose the linear stages from a world hub, whereas Dark is an open world. Now.. I haven't played Dark yet so someone may have to correct me but the world is not so 'open' as the huge western RPGS, instead it's various dangerous areas that you must hack your way through to progress.

The online function is very similar between the two, but some regions of the demonsouls servers have been taken offline, the European servers are still up though.

Dark is all one world were you choose a patch and work your way around, most of the areas link somehow. It's not an open field type map but the dungeons, not all, have passage ways linking them to one another.

In DS you have a location and you port to the zones.

My PS is on it's way from my brother's place I can finally finish my Dark Souls play through, been waiting since xmas last year for this.

Ah.. could you call DarkSouls linear branching, then? Like metroidvania...

Also, I was at my friends house today, he's doing a soul level 1 playthrough of Demon Souls, absolute psycho.. I watched him beat Flame Lurker this way, it was pretty impressive. Afterwards he was struggling with the Maneater fight, again at SL1, I had a couple of tries and beat it =D

I don't know about linear branching, it all depends on where you want to go and if you can defeat the enemies.

Another thing different between the games is the Light/Dark status attached to your character based on the actions you take. I really didn't like that in DS.
