After somewhat of a let-down in Japanese sales as compared to its predecessor (selling in its first two weeks about half of what FFXIII sold in its first), despite perfect reviews from both Famitsu and Dengeki, FFXIII-2 has finally made its appearance stateside and, er, Europe-side.

IGN gave the game an 8 out of 10, praising it for stepping away from the linearity of its predecessor, its leveling up system, additional content, appearance and battle engine. They criticize the game, however, for what seems to be overshadowing flaws: battles that are less than challenging and a story that leaves the player asking "what story?"

Other sites provided more generous scores while echoing the same complaints, saying that the issues of the FFXIII had been corrected successfully at the cost of storytelling.

Does anyone here have the game? Anyone intending to purchase it? Somebody just say something before Del does :P

I've got it, but I'm barely anywhere in it. I like that it's less linear, and I think I am going to like the time element of it, but I'm totally confused by the new Crystarium so far. I think I might have inadvertently screwed it up and I just got started.

Can you hear it breathing?
And hey, put the laptop down for a while
In the night there is something wild
I feel it, it's leaving me

I have it, but I'm not terribly far into it. The battle system is as intriguing as its predecessor was, with a whole new flavor added to it. It's refreshing and certainly leaves plenty of room for creativity and exploration to maximize effectiveness. I've only even scratched the surface and I'm already busy miring myself in experimentation.

I absolutely loved FFXIII anyways, so I will likely enjoy this one regardless.

I got it a lot for the collectors soundtrack and art book (or art pamphlet) which are undoubtedly awesome if you are a fan of Uematsu. I have yet to personally finish FFXIII but from the looks of things it seems to have fixed some of the problems that at least i found irritating. However, none of the "problems" that arise in reviews of games seem to really hit me as much as they did the reviewers i guess, like the problems with skyward sword and the original XIII when they were both reviewed, so maybe it wont be as noticeable for XIII-2 too...

I'm looking to get it sometime soon. Having beat FFXIII I ddi enjoy the change of pace in that game. My problem was the lack of being able to get Gil the normal way. But still I've been looking forward to this game sinc eI first heard it was coming out.

The problem is Uematsu has absolutely NOTHING to do with the soundtrack or art. In any case, if you are an Amano fan then the art pamphlet is a must.

I have the game and personally I think the japanese overrated it and the americans got the score right. A definite eight on my book. If you ask me this game feels like "FF XIII + Blue Dragon + Chrono Trigger + Pokémon".

Whoops yeah thanks for catching that, the music isn't Uematsu but it does fit the series for the most part (damn you metal chocobo theme tongue.gif). Got it yesterday and it is a good package, especially like the soft-ish container it comes in hehe XD

In all honesty I can't see how that would possibly be a bad thing. XD From what I've seen, FFXIII-2 is getting a lot better of a review reception than FFXIII (probably because the game didn't wait a few hours to kick into high gear).

I'm definitely looking forward to it once I've finished up FFXIII. They got rid of We Cannot Go On Without You, which was my biggest problem with the game. I might miss playing as Lightning and Hope, but I'm still looking forward to it.

Who did the music? Sakimoto?

Masashi Hamauzu (who did all of FFXIII), Naoshi Mizuta (who apparently did a lot for FFXI) and Mitsuto Suzuki, who I've never heard of.
