We all do this. Who do you neglect the most? Not buying them their best equipment, not reviving them, whatever.
I usually neglect my Black Mage, to be honest. He's an expensive class to maintain. -------------------- TWEWY is pretty fun. My Backloggery |

I want to vote but multiple options are not allowed.
Most of the time, I use the same line up : 2 fighters, 2 white mages. I dont neglect any of them .... but I do neglect the rest of the classes. Especially the thief. Imo, the worst character in final fantasy period. This post has been edited by Aeris-Logan on 1st August 2011 20:00 |

For me it's probably Black Mages. On the NES their magic wasn't enough, and on the GBA or PSP it's all about physical attacks. -------------------- |

I thought about the thief bad as well for a long time. But then I realized one shouldn't really be fighting against all the monsters in the early caverns, most noticiable the Marsh Cave because you will eventually run out of MP. And with a thief you can easily flee.
Though, the game gets IMHO WAY easier once you have gotten to the first or second crystal, the beginning is the hardest part, isn't it? |

The ninja is only marginally better than the thief.
I guess its my own preference though. I have always played a certain way. Defensive > offensive. Which is why the white mages are always the most important player in any game I play. |

No one really. I tend to grind for enough gold to equip everyone well every time I get to a new town, or if I'm feeling lazy I'll rotate who doesn't get upgrades so no one is left too far behind.

I'm just the opposite. I've always been heavy on attacks, and physical ones at that. I'll grind through a game like FF1 with only fighters. White mage is definitely one of my last picks. |

Thief, because I was disappointed that she ( she looks like a female to me ) couldn't steal anything in battle. Otherwise she would be right up there. It doesn't make any sense, a thief that can't steal ? -------------------- Currently playing Chrono Trigger !! Currently looking forward to Don't Know. |

I'm not sure why the Thief gets all the hate. Truly he's one of the weaker characters at first, but the addition of a Ninja is worth the wait. The Ninja is a very useful addition to any party.

The Ninja is a very useful addition to any party. The NES version? Thieves are truly awful in everything except running. Ninjas are a significant step up, but the only advantage they have over Knights is being able to cast Haste--Red Mages/Wizards can do that before the class-change and are more versatile before and after the class change. Thieves/Ninjas are a lot better in the later versions--they get more attacks than Warriors/Knights for most of the game and the changed MP system gives them a lot more castings of Temper (which actually works and Haste. Still, I end up favouring Red Wizards over Ninjas, since Red Wizards can also double for defensive buffing and healing as well as spamming Flare/Holy via items (plus the Lightbringer is much better than the Murasame). -------------------- Thank you for taking the time to read this sign. Ah, the oldest controversy in FF1... who is the "worst" character? XD
I've only played the NES version, so that's the only version I know. I neglect the Black Belt/Master. I generally finish the game at a pretty low level, and he doesn't become handy for my style of play until the Floating Castle he hits level 21. Black Belt is pretty good at doing damage to the random encounters, but he isn't a very good boss killer until level 21. Then, he becomes a powerhouse for sure. But, so is his competitor, Fighter/Knight. It doesn't matter how much excess damage is done by either; a on-hit kill is a one-hit kill. Fighters, on the NES version, are so overpowered that they can overshadow all others. Anymore days, I never chose them. I use a Red Mage if I want a character if I want to make a party with a good tank. If I want more of a challenge out of a four-person team, I'll use a Thief/Ninja or White Mage as my "tank." For my style of play, Black Belts are my last choice for anything. Red Mages are my favorite character by far! I completed a solo Red Mage game once, and other than the usual rough patches (Marsh Cave, Earth Cave, Ice Cave, Temple of Fiends), it was pretty easy. |

I usually neglect my Black Belt, personally.
This is because he suffers the least from neglect. (Hardly any armor/weapons) -------------------- "In I go, off to mend. Out I come, healthy again." |

Please console me. I'm not used to being in such a large majority.
I usually neglect my black belt so much that I don't put him on my team. He's always sitting around in some depressing tavern in Cornelia going nowhere for eternity as I cycle through the game's timeline in logic-breaking loops thanks to the game's ending. Now that I mention it, does anyone else think that Wakka from FFX fits the monk/bb archetype? Because I neglect him so bad he ends the game with less than 6,000 HP and Lulu ends it with over 50,000, and every other character at least breaks 9,999. About the FF1 black belt, I think it's a pretty useful character; it's just that all the other ones seem to make for more fun and dynamic gameplay. -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

The general consensus on the Thief on every FF1 board on the internet seems to be that they are the worst class. I have completed this game on the NES hundreds of times, it is my favourite video game of all time and I know it inside and out, and I've always found the Thief to be the best class to have around. It's the only class I will NEVER exclude from a party (unless doing a challenge run). Uh oh, 4 geists and my fighter is paralyzed and black mage out of FIR2... no worries, Thief to the rescue. The ability to run literally 100% of the time (except against bosses and Wizards) is priceless and I can put up with some early game weak attacks for it. Then he turns in to a bad ass ninja that deals almost as much damage as a knight and can still run from any battle: valuable to both escape instant death creatures and escape boredom of a low EXP battle. Plus another nice bonus of the level 4 black magic so he can cast FAST on himself while your BW casts it on your knight or master.

I wonder if the dislike of Thief's run ability comes from a bit of a conflict between the old tabletop RPG mentality where running from battle is always a valid option (and sometimes still nets you XP from the GM) and the newer JRPG idea that every random battle should be relatively easy and should involve wailing on stuff until it goes to 0 HP to get XP.

Either the thief, black belt or warrior I think... I almost always focus my team on the 3 mages.

I always seem to leave out Black Belt from my party. The heavy hitters and the mages all represent, but I can't think of a party I had where multiple (or even a single) Black Belt was used. I remember buying a nunchuck once, so I used him at least once?
I know he doesn't payoff at the end part of the game, but I like to use Red Mage. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." "You're a total knee biter." |

I tend to neglect Kope. He is in the game for one reason, to tell you he saw the robot, which a chick in Gaia already does, and yet he gets a name? ...
...Oh, which Character Class? I'm fond of them all. All have their ups and downs, but it depends on what mood I'm in. I would say the least attractive one is Black Belt, cuz of the fugly ass version of Bruce Lee's hair. -------------------- The world is slowly ebbing away... |
