Well, at least not in the several years we've had these forums, to be sure. I've recently picked the game up again after at least a year of not touching it due to losing my save files, which cost me 30 levels of the Chrysler Building - those of you who have played it realize what a tough loss that really is.
So, currently, I've slogged my way back up to the 53rd floor; I had to turn back then because I was ill-prepared for the monsters there, even at level 45 and with a weapon of 250+ attack power. It's as if crossing that threshold to the 51st floor just invites a wrecking crew into your face. My hope is to finally finish the EX game within another week or so of my rare, rare playtime, and then maybe even give PE2 a try. I've owned PE2 for at least three years now, and have never even opened it, having wanted to utterly complete PE before moving on. (Yes, I know PE2 is weak compared to the original, but still.) So who here else has a love for Parasite Eve? I actually think the original is the Square game I like best among all the company's PSX releases - yes, above all three of the FFs. Should CoN have a PE section? Edit Oh, and if anyone here has actually played all the way through the 77 floors of the Chrysler Building, please mark your freaking spoilers. I swear I'll ban you if you spoil anything about the EX boss for me; I'll come back and read any spoilers regarding the boss after I finish. Hearing R51 talk about this got me started on it again too. The play really is awesome (RPG battles with skill-based dodging ), fun weapon/armor customization, and an engrossing story (for at least as far as I've played).
I picked my copy up overseas and am trying to convince myself that playing it counts as language study time. Edit And, throwing in my vote for a PE section This post has been edited by Phoenix on 13th September 2006 23:45 |

(Yes, I know PE2 is weak compared to the original, but still.) Actually, I loved PE2. I liked it more than the first game in parts. You have a lot more freedom of movement between areas, and while the story wasn't quite as good, the action was better. I finished the Chrysler building, but I can't remember which boss was the normal ending and which went with the EX...or the storylines of both. They've kinda melded together in my mind. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Yeah, another fan of PE here.
I've actually finished the Chrysler Building years ago, but it was quite the challenge. Past the level 50 boss, you do get some badasses, but as I recalled it, the only hindrances for the last 20 or so levels were the bosses, who are incredibly tough. You do get some nice equipment, and some unique abilities for weapons too. PE 2 didn't do the quick for me: the battle system was too much different. That's really it though, it could be playable now that years have passed between my last PE playthrough. And of course, I vote yea for the return of a PE section at CoN. |

I have yet to play parasite eve (it's on my to do list)
However I have always heard the best about PE, so I'll say yes, CoN should have a Parasite Eve section -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

Yeah, I made it to the level 60 boss last night and got absolutely crushed. Just demolished - Lasz and I spent a half hour afterward formulating a new strategy. My new plan is to continue to level up between floors 51 and 60, because the crazy squirrels drop Medicine 4s or Revives on almost every battle. It's definitely better to level up on those floors rather than in the Museum, because you get a lot more bonus points that you can dump into your weapon and armor. Below floor 51, though, you might as well level up in the Museum.
And as for adding a section, I was pretty much kidding about that. We're failing to get done with the work we have NOW. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Ah yes, Parasite Eve... Personally I felt the storyline was even better than FF7's. But sadly, much shorter. Too short.
The Chrysler building was a nightmare. Frankly, I hated the design: way too repetitive. It got terribly boring after a while. But what a challenge! And what a shocker once you get to the top - I won't spoil it of course, but yeow. Parasite Eve 2 was quite good. I never got why people didn't like it as much as they should've. It was a Resident Evil with RPG elements, had a shower scene, and a good semi-survival horror, semi-futuristic fantasy storyline. What more can you want? White-haired clich‚ men with katanas throwing meteors at planets for the sake of giving the player a purpose? -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Parasite Eve was stunning. The plot was fantastic, the pacing was excellent, it was a departure from high-fantasy and additionally included a console RPG based in modern times. There are a few cinematics that still send shivers down my back, though the one that clearly comes to mind follows:
Possible spoilers: highlight to view Aya sitting in the helicopter, being escorted over water with a squad in front of her sacrificing their lives so that she might have a chance to land. It's the surprising, gritty twist that I love. Quote (Silverlance) Parasite Eve 2 was quite good. I never got why people didn't like it as much as they should've. I never got into PE2, despite rumors of excessive fanservice, because the control system drove me nuts. The sudden depature from "press left to go left" and replacing it with the rotational aspect was... unforgivable. Good-bye muscle memory from playing through all of PE1. It could have really been made a better game given proper pacing. The desert sequence was... ridiculously long and drawn out. That combined with the controller problem had me tossing the CDs back into their pile. I suppose I never gave it a second chance, but it was just too different. -------------------- Visions of Peace - Four Generals, One Empire, and the Returners caught in the middle. |

Isn't Parasite Eve where
Possible spoilers: highlight to view at the start of the game, the woman is singing (opera) and fire (or something) comes unto the audience in the red seats? If it is, I vaguely remember watching my brother play it about 3-5 years ago. It's just that , that question was unanswered for about 2 years and I always wondered what the game was. -------------------- Profanity is for those who lack the intelligence and imagination to otherwise express themselves. I owned Parasite Eve up until a couple of weeks ago. I sold it. I liked it at first, but with every replay I would get more and more bored with it. I never did fully complete it either as I've only had enough patience with it to get to the final boss once, and the first time I never had enough healing items, so I gave up. Never bothered with PE2.

Never bothered with PE2. Really? I never found the initial game all that hard. The EX Game is now kicking my butt - I'm having trouble in some random battles in floor 61 and higher without having to use my autoheal properties. However, I DID just get the Super Tool Kit which means I was able to rack up the bonus points. I now have my final weapon and armor for this game: MAG Rifle, 330 Attack, 251 Range, 95 Bullets, 3x Fire, Attack Up, Preemptive Attack, Acid Bullets, Ice Bullets, 3x Command, and Counterattack. Cr Armor 2, 284 Defense, 226 PE Defense, 130 Critical Defense, HP Max Up, Item Cap +4, Anti-poison, Anti-bind, Anti-blind, Autoheal, PE Usage Down, and Attack Up. If anyone has better equipment than that on their first EX Game without cheating, I'm really impressed. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Quote Really? I never found the initial game all that hard. The game itself is pretty easy, hence why I breazed through the game without worrying about healing items too much, and why I figured what I had would be fine for the final boss... she kicked my behind. I was probably a little under-leveled though, or else I just suck at strategy. Couldn't beat her. Nope. -------------------- Quote Do you think we're forever? |

I had to add to this thread, so pardon the unnecessary bump. I am currently on day three, and well, things are progressing smoothly I must say. I haven't had an opportunity to play it muchsince I got it last week, but I shoul dbe midway through the chrysler building sometime on Friday. Thankfully I have a five day weekend to partake in the gaming goodness. Mwaha!
Sorry, just had to share. -------------------- This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy. I was a soldier, now I just play one in video games. |

Ah Parasite eve..... where do i begin? this is quite possibly my favorite square game of all time. Ive beaten it countless times both normal and ex mode. generally i can beat it in less than 10 hours. as for its successor, i have much less praise for it. controls were clunky, and the plot was even shorter than PE1 which is hard to do. me and a friend clocked myself, 1:52 for just a blitz of the story and 2:25 for a perfect completion.

I love the original, and like pe2.
I have this weird thing, where i like survival horrors once in a while. This is recent, because i really got into them after completing resident evil 1 and code veronica, and especially silent hill.I really like the characters in pe1, especially daniel, aya brea, and maeda -------------------- We are stardust. Our bodies are made from the guts of exploding stars.
