I'm raging right now.

I accidentally deleted my old save and am trying to replicate its 100% status, but this game is TORTURE to master.

So, does anyone have a Missables guide?

Um, if someone could just tell me what I shouldn't miss in a list here... I dunno. I need help.

It was added in 2005 and was added to the main section navigation last year.

The δBattle Trumpet and the δScimitar can only be collected furing your raid on the underwater reactor.

Hilarious typo is hilarious.

Also, I noticed that - and I may be misremembering - but I could've sworn there was some materia you can only get during the raid on Midgar later in the game, but I didn't see it listed.

You're right, the guide's not mentionning the W-Item materia. Can't believe I missed this one the first and second time around the guide happy.gif

W-Item isn't truly missable since you can dig it up from Bone Village.
The list seems to be missing some missable consumable items, like the Earth Mallet you can only get as a drop from the big Gigas enemies in the Whirlwind Maze during disk 2.

Yeah, there are a few items missing. I'm actually finishing up a playthrough I started back around Christmas, my first playthrough in years and my first real attempt at a "perfect" game. So here are a few things from memory. Some are items that aren't on that list, some are clarifications on items that are.

  • Iron Bangle - Buy in Sector 7 Slums in Midgar at the very beginning of the game. The only way to get 99 is to earn gil by fighting in the Train Graveyard BEFORE getting on the train to go to the raid on the second reactor.
  • Ghost Hand - Steal from Ghosts in the Train Graveyard in Midgar before the Sector 7 pillar is destroyed. This is the ONLY place to get them (except for in the Battle Arena up until you get the Airship), so make sure you steal at least one so you can duplicate it later.
  • Wall Market Crossdressing Items - Make sure you get one of each. The "best" items, technicallly, are the Silk Dress, Blonde Wig, Sexy Cologne, and Diamond Tiara. Also get the Member's Card and one of the pairs of underwear (it doesn't matter which one).
  • Battery - This is a matter of personal preference. You MUST use two of the three Battery items purchased from the weapon shop in Wall Market to reach the top of the "shiny golden wire of hope". One of them, however, can be kept; it is only used to obtain an Ether. So, is having the unique Battery item in your inventory more important than obtaining every piece of treasure in the game, even if it's just a lousy Ether?
  • A Coupon, B Coupon, C Coupon - This is an even bigger decision than the Battery. These are Key Items, and it's not necessary to trade them for the three prizes at the computer in the Shinra Building. All three prizes (Star Pendant, Four Slots, and "All" materia) are non-unique items which can be replaced later ("All" materias can be bought at Fort Condor after the end of Disc 1). This means missing out on the first accessory of the game and an "All" materia (which are extremely useful early on), but it's a small price to pay to keep three unique Key Items in your inventory. Again, personal preference.
  • Vagyrisk Claw - Just a note here, it IS possible to get these without allowing Cmdr. Grand Horn to reach the top of Fort Condor during one of the first three battles there. They can be stolen from Bagrisks, small green lizard-like enemies found in the dirt areas near Cosmo Canyon (but not IN Cosmo Canyon, meaning not anywhere where the light has changed - the best place is over near the beach southwest of the canyon, after crossing the river coming from Gongaga). It's a rare steal (about 4%), and your chances go down the higher your stealing character's level and dexterity are. After reaching level 77, they can no longer be stolen, so the earlier the better (using the character with the lowest level and dexterity, preferably). Also, equiping the Sneak Glove makes it impossible to steal Vagyrisk Claws. Even though the chances are low, I had very little trouble stealing several the first time I reached Cosmo Canyon.
  • Umbrella - It's called the Parasol on that list. Just thought I'd clarify. I think that Parasol is the PC version name (Umbrella is definitely the US Playstation name). Need 5000 points in Speed Square, must be won on Disc 1 (prize changes to Flayer after that), can only win 1.
  • HP Absorb / MP Absorb / Leviathan materias - Another clarification. The sidequest where Yuffie steals your materia becomes unavailable after the end of Disc 2, not Disc 1 (basically, it must be done before parachuting into Midgar). It should also be mentioned that there is another HP Absorb materia in the game, so that one isn't lost forever (unlike the MP Absorb Materia), but the one in Wutai is still technically unique. Also, the Leviathan materia is given to you after the Pagoda sidequest, which never becomes unavailable - it can be done on Disc 3, even if the stolen materia sidequest was never completed.
  • Mythril Clip - Sold in Junon. Like the Four Slots and the Shotgun, this is no longer for sale after the end of Disc 1.
  • Wizard Staff - Clarification. These can be bought in Junon on Discs 2 and 3. The one found at Mount Corel (not Mount Nibel) is not a "missable forever" item.
  • Protect Ring - These can be morphed from Movers in the North Crater, so they're not actually missable, but the only other one in the game must be stolen from Schizo (Right) in Gaea's Cliff. If you miss it, you have to wait until the Crater to get one.
  • Gigas Armlet - You get one of these from Demon's Gate, so it's not strictly missable, but the only way to get more (or 99, of course) is to steal them from Gigas on the slope down into North Crater after climbing Gaea's Cliff.
  • Earth Mallet - As ILoveMoombas! already mentioned, win from Gigas on the slope down into North Crater after climbing Gaea's Cliff. Fairly low drop. Also remember that enemies will not drop items if you steal from them.
  • Imperial Guard - One of these can be found in the Crater, but a second one can be won from Cmdr. Grand Horn at the FINAL Fort Condor battle (the one for the Huge Materia) if you let him reach the shed. There are only two in the game (although the one in the Crater can be duplicated, for a total of three).
  • Phoenix Materia - Technically, this is missable. If you don't grab it after the baby phoenix hatches, you can't come back for it later.
  • Ziedrich, Touph Ring, Minerva Band - Just a couple notes here, since the list mentions how many occurrences of each are possible but doesn't give any details. First of all, if you don't visit the Sunken Gelnika on Disc 2, you'll miss the Turks boss battle there against Reno and Rude and thus will miss copies of both the Ziedrich and Touph Ring. Since the Gelnika is optional, it can be easy to forget that this battle is only temporarily available, so I just thought I'd mention it. Also, you can decline to fight the Turks during the Midgar raid (if you've completed Yuffie's stolen materia sidequest). Doing this will cause you to miss copies of all three pieces of equipment, which is a really bad idea.
  • Rising Sun - A unique weapon for Yuffie that can be stolen from Diamond WEAPON.
  • W-Item Materia - As was already mentioned, this is missable (the dead end of the subway tunnels during the Midgar raid), though it can apparently be dug up in Bone Village if you miss it. Why anyone would want to go to that trouble, though, is beyond me.
  • Graviball - This item is technically missable if you don't have any by the end of the raid on Midgar. Won from Deenglows in the Train Graveyard at the beginning of the game or stolen from Shadow Makers in the subway tunnels during the Midgar raid.
  • Shinra Alpha - Just a note here, the best place to get them is from Soldier: 1sts on the stairs after fighting Proud Clod.
