I got a comment:

One problem i have with pc's is how they charge a lot more for specific parts.
Consoles also tend to break down less when you get a game and put it in,and also:You don't necessarily need to buy new parts for it to play that really sweet new game.

I also have another thing to complain about:I believe that sometimes, the companies that make certain games rush too much to get it out just so they can make a quick buck, and then it is either:Unfinished or bugged.Square enix is one of such companies that rushes to get as many games out in a year as it can,it was true even when square was the company that was making the games.

I also heard some complaints as an example:About the time it took to get FFXIII and why it took less time to get games out before.

It's christmas, I'm not even sure I was suposed to be here, but anyway...

Your comment about pc's is true, but for a reason: PCs can be upgraded to whatever there is of most advanced in terms of hardware, so when you say that specific components (CPU, video card e etc.) are a lot expensive, you are taking as reference the cost of a console hardware, that is outdated by several years.

About the need of buying new parts to play any new release... well, you don't have to, not anymore, since companies these days tend to nerf pc games technical qualities in order to release the same game for both the outdated console hardware and PC. Surely there will be differences, such as frame rate, shaders, antialiasing, but the game will be the same. This is part of a phenomenon known as "consolization".

note: before i start a flamewar here, i'm NOT one of those "pc master race" guys, i'm just stating something i've been observing, and that's it.

Happy Holidays to the members of CoN!

This complaint is something I've actually been complaining about for a few years now and about the same company as well. I find it slightly satifying to let everyone know at the end of the rant whenever i do it that all squenix is is a sell out who'd rather make an extra nickle than make the game more appealing to its fans. The ONLY thing that they do right is not make very buggy games that effect your ability to do quests/side quests in the game...
I'm looking at you Bethesda and your Elder scrolls IV with the Shimmering island expansion.....

Edit: I just remembered their bug on FF VII where none of your equipment actually has magic defense at all. so They've messed up too! DAMN YOU SQUEENIX!!!

was it shivering isles? or knights expansion that brought the vampire quest glitch? I think it was shivering isles.

Also:Good ot know about that part on pc games.
In the past,it cost a fortune to upgrade your computers, making it much better to play on consoles.

I remember going to a store called:pcworld and looking around about 6 years ago i think it was? yeah,6 years ago.

I wanted to build my own computer using separate parts, but the parts were so incredibly expensive.

200 euros for one of those modern power source
450 euros for windows xp professional 350 for the regular windows xp version.
I could go on and on,but you get the point.

As for games:

I got the lost legacy for christmas for the xbox 360,batman arkham asylum & zelda skyward sword. for wii

I am one of those who hasn't trusted square since 1997.

You remember that movie that drove them bankrupt?
You know:That big budget movie known as:Spirits within?

Sure i thought it was ok,but i didn't think it was a masterpiece or anything.
I've seen it maybe twice, and i haven't seen it ever again.

Square even before the enix part, was coming out with games faster than ever, but the main problem with this is that not all games were of quality.
Look at games like ff legends 3:Sure its not half bad,but this really old game is far too easy and you can just rush through it.

I don't really like crystal chronicles that much either.

My point is:Maybe the companies should try focusing on single projects more. That way they can put all their devs on the game to fix any glitches.

FF6 is one example of a game that i love that i think now is far too glitchy.
You have things that in fact can break the game, but i never used em either.

Here is another complain i have about squeenix:They are trying to over extend their genre to everyone, just so they can make more money but at the sacrifice of a quality game.

Rpg fans want a fantastic story, and a great adventure they can go into, but we are left with a linear mess of a game with games like FFXIII.

When the game does open up,it gives you a monotonous fetch quest which involves killing x monster then return to claim your reward.Something perhaps the game should have had at the beginning, but with more exploration and also i think more narration.I think a story should not just depend on cgi cutscenes after every event, but also through conversations with people and through personal discovery of it as you explore.

What was that called again? You know what i mean.

I hear good stuff about FFXII's gameplay on FF shrine forums, but i don't trust square enix.

Square enix is not the company square was.True square was faulty, but it was definitely more trustworthy.

I don't know if it's release dates that are the problem. Maybe with newer games they need more time but I know that in the past this hasn't been a problem. Here's a list of Square releases to show what I mean:

IV - 1991
V - 1992
VI - 1994
CT - 1995
VII - 1997
Tactics - 1997 (Japan)
VIII - 1999
IX - 2000

Eight brilliant games in ten years. Not bad at all. FFX came out in 2001 as well so it's not like the jump in hardware caused a delay or a rush to release it. I think they used to be making a few games at once in the main series allowing for lots of time in pre-production. I can't remember where I read it but I remember an article about how games aren't prepared as well as they used to be; in other words the planning is rushed, or certainly neglected. That to me seems like a pretty good reason for an apparent decline.

Also, yeah, the MDefence bug in FFVII is such a shame. Some bugs are fun to manage but that one was just a waste.

I consider myself,a seasoned veteran rpg fan.

I also think i try hard as possible to be as spread out as possible.

I play a lot of old rpgs, and many times i get a sort of nostalgia out of playing them.
Examples:When i play ultima underworld,i feel a nostalgia for rem,and when i play certain rem songs,i feel a nostalgia for ultima underworld. The big reason for this,is because i used to listen to these songs with headphones on while wandering around. This type of thing doesn't work as well with other types of games, because it messes with the mood, but it works well with some old games.

Also:While release dates are one problem i think,i think another,is that they spew out those games too fast, with not enough time put into fully designing the game to be as fun as possible.

This is not something new,as square has been doing this long before enix bought em off.If we look at all the games coming out during the snes,we will see a really huge amount of square games that were spewed out non stop:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Square_video_games

This is a comprised list of all games from square, not square enix, all the way up to the merge.

Notice how games from 1984-1987 were relatively small amounts, and then they discover how popular rpgs and action rpgs are and start spewing em out.

I mean:JESUS!! 1992-2000 popular titles they were spewing out at the same time:

Breath of fire
Final fantasy
Seiken deketsu
Romancing saga

Actually:I think that it was post 1998 that they started to really spew out a lot of games, but even then:They had a huge amount of titles.

Back when i was a child, and secret of mana was new,i liked that sort of thing.
I think that afterwards,i got burned out, because i played too many jrpgs,or maybe just too many square games.Another problem,is that i was getting kinda older, and i had seen a lot of games by the time newer ps2 titles came out.As newer games came out, some impressed me,while others not so much.

Mass effect wasn't a fully fresh idea by the time i played it,because i had already played bioshock 2,which incorporates special powers.I also think that bioshock 2 did it better.

Fallout 3:Had better dungeons than oblivion ever did.I always kinda felt that oblivion used copy paste dungeons with the same enemies.I always had little to no desire to explore oblivion dungeons, while i had a little more to explore in fallout, because of the actual history. You had a museum full of mutants full of weapons, and schools and caves and all sorts of places.Oblivion had towers and caves and that is pretty much it.Even though the dungeons are more fun in fallout 3,i actually have more fun running around sneaking and stealing in oblivion.I think one of the biggest turn offs for me about fallout 3,is that its more of a fps rpg half breed, and even though it has incorporated some interesting gameplay aspects,it is not enough to keep me fully interested.

Oblivion:There is technically speaking:Almost no character development, and very little in terms of story.Oblivion is mostly a sandbox game about running around doing all sorts of cool things.

Pros:

The evil sub quests are the most fun, especially stealing and assasination.
I also really liked the mad gods quest of making people go insane by locking them up,or killing them with traps.

The other quests weren't bad either, especially the mage quest. The mage quest can be also extremely op and give you a huge advantage by making spells,or enchanting useful spells on items, but they cost a lot for more powerful ones.

Cons:

The dungeons are pretty repetitive, and carry most of the same enemies.
There is very little variety to the actual story, and most npcs are pretty much the same.

The game is riddled with all sorts of bugs, the most annoying one is the vampire quest bug,but that is for the game of the year addition which comes with the knights of the nine quest, and the quest for the mad god.

One bug,is a patching bug that causes guards to hit each other, and you can even make groups of people attack the guards. You have to be extremely careful,or you could kill off store keepers, and even the buyers of illegal goods.
I also think that my game got corrupted somehow, because stuff stopped spawning in stores,so i couldn't keep stealing for money.

Overall:Its not the best game ever,i certainly think its ok to mess around with once in a while.

Dragon age origins:I like the fact that real time is taken into consideration, because i like real time fights a lot too.Real time combat can be far better and less tedious than in old games. One thing that sometimes got on my nerves,is when you took 2 or 3 steps and got an encounter in old games. Some games took measures to make sure the game didn't become overly tedious, while others made sure to make you suffer. One game that happened to make it worse, was Final fantasy 2 japanese version on nes.
You would go in thinking there were treasures, but you found an empty room with 200% encounter rate. And if you were really early in the game with a limited amount of ethers, this was a literal death sentence.

Another thing i always really liked about dragon age origins,is the more mature setting in terms of characters.Final fantasy i think is a little more kid friendly, and tend to keep it towards that.I'm not saying its a bad thing, but i do think that they reuse a lot of the same types of characters, and this tends to turn them into a stereotype.

Another thing i liked, was that you could affect if a character trusts you.
If you acted in such a way that betrays the trust, that person will leave, and even possibly instantly attack you.

I also want to mention some other types of characters i've noticed:

In american rpgs,i'm seeing more of those bald marine types.
Mass effect has characters that look like that.I really hope it doesn't become too big of a staple, because i'm not a fan of that type of character.I think too much of anything in mass quantities can be bad.

Let me think of what else i learned about rpgs:

Seems like more games want to incorporate first person shooters or third person shooters in them.Heck, even other genres are doing it.

Resident evil 5 reminds me more of tomb raider,or uncharted.

I don't mean this in a bad way,but i do think that the puzzles aren't all that good.
I got really bored by the time i was in a cave doing those mirror laser lift things.

Anyways,my point is:I don't think that fps incorporated in everything is really a good thing, because fps games tend to be mindless shooting.I think that more of these new games, concentrate too much on online play, and not enough on story gameplay aspect enough,to really make a noticeable difference.

I haven't played kotor, jade empire or the first mass effect yet,but i can imagine what its like.I do want to try them though.

Lets see:What else...

Thats it for now.

FF legends 3 wasn't that good.

It was too easy to just rush through, and ff2 japanese version was broken in balance. You could 1 hit kill bosses with toad/mini spell.

I'll admit, I only skimmed through Magitek's post (can you blame me?) but there are two points I want to make.

1. Who is this imaginary "bald headed marine" character from Mass Effect?

2. Your "spewing games out constantly" point would only be relevant if all the games were of the same franchise (ie made by the same team). Different franchises are made by different teams so I don't see how it matters that they're releasing lots of games across lots of franchises in quick succession.

I like som e of bioware games, just that i'm not all that into mass effect series.

And yes,i did ramble a lot about mostly bioware,i'l try and get into other series in a minute:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDHk9-2FycY
Not bald, but a space marine none the less.

Fable 2,which was designed by lionhead studio:

I thought it was pretty good.

I do wish that you could reverse the effects of the transgender.

Kotor:Lucas arts.

I played some of lucas art games, mostly:Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis.
I saw some people play kotor, and it looked interesting for a bit,but i don't think enough interest to buy it.

This is an iffy subject, since i never played kotor.I have to watch more.

I played the demo of mass effect 2 btw,so thats as much experience as i have.

Bethdesa developed fallout and oblivion series.

origins, which is the company which made games like:ultima:

This company disbanded in 2004,but worked for over 25 years.

Games developed like:Wing commander and even system shock.

I didn't know they made system shock, but i hear good things about it.

My point was mostly on square enix, not so much on american game companies.

American game companies seem to be more interested in tps and fps games.
