I don't use !Finisher. Don't shoot.

I see people rely on !Finisher way too much (and in my experience it fails way too often). In my opinion, !Mimic is still the most powerful command in the game. Free instant-death spells tops the list on why it's the ultimate command. In fact, I prefer to use a semi-varied party to keep battles interesting and change up my methods so I don't feel like I'm grinding away.

Character 1: Mime with !Summon, !Mimic, MP +30%
Equip: Gold Hairpin, Protect Ring
EDIT: Forgot to mention, equip with Masamune for First Strike

Character 2: Freelancer with !Mimic & !Mix
Replenish MP for your Mime by mixing a Dry Ether.

Character 3: Freelancer with !Mimic & !Zeninage
If Odin isn't wiping out the enemy or doing enough damage, switch back to old reliable and nail them with !Zeninage for 9,999 damage on all enemies; take that, !Finisher. Used as a last resort, I don't like throwing gil away.

Character 4: Freelancer with !Mimic & !Blue
White Wind & Mighty Guard. 'Nuff said.

Just cast Odin over and over. If by chance you don't instantly win, Gungnir will be doing pretty good damage per round (something like 16,000 on average, I'm doing right now at level 40).

Some might argue that ruling out !Time for casting Quick is a bad move, but with the versatility and outright survivability of the above party set-up, you won't really need to execute double commands. Your Mime's MP will be boosted, and the Gold Hairpin keeps MP costs down.

P.S. Best part of this setup is that it is based solely on magic damage, instant death and pre-determined damage formulas, which allow you to keep your entire party in the back row. =)

In closing, I really wish a similar job system were in place in a new core Final Fantasy game. It was so good in FFV.

Final Fantasy XII International (as far as I'm aware this was made by the FFT crowd) has a sort of non-changeable job system, altering character building a great deal from the original. I have no idea how good it is, I'm dying to try it. I'd also love to see the systems of FFT and FFV used again.

I love the Odin summon. I even use it in battles against enemies who I know are immune to Instant Death - Gungnir is that good (and Zantetsuken is always a treat if you get it).

I normally only use Finisher if I'm feeling lazy. I agree with !Mimic being amazing - the number of useful commands to mimic to hit enemies' weak points for massive damage is mind-boggling:
  • Holy
  • Flare
  • Bahamut (plus any other good offensive summon)
  • Meteor
  • Quick
  • Every non-Blue Magic or Dark Arts spell Dualcasted (yup, !Mimic works with Dualcasted spells)
  • !Finisher
  • !Mix
  • !Combine
  • !Spellblade
  • !Rapid-Fire (useful if you have Equip Swords...actually, I think Imma try that in my next playthough)
  • White Wind

And that's just off the top of my head.
Too bad mimicking !Zeninage still uses up Gil, apparently, although that's probably for the better.
