I can't speak for everyone that owns an idevice, but I have been anxiously awaiting the port of Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions for the iOS since I first heard about it.

Originally stated to be released sometime in September 2010, then delayed until May 2011, then again delayed until 'sometime from June to July', Square Enix have finally confirmed that Thursday, Aug. 4th they will be releasing the title, finally. Yes, that's 2011.

No tricks!

The iOS version will be released Thursday for iPhone 4G and 3GS (but not 3G, as they claim it was too slow on said product), and iPod Touch. iPad users will have to hang on for just a brief while longer as they've slated release for it to be sometime next month.

Though they've done little to update graphics-wise, it will support some nice, clean retina display looks, faster load times than the PSP version, all at the cost of dropping the multiplayer function from the game. A slight shame, but I doubt anyone will be crying too much over that factor.

Come Thursday, Aug. 4th, it'll be available in the App Store for 1800 yen/$15.99 US/€12.99. Woot!

Even though that's a big price for an app, it'll be worth it for such a title, and furthermore, as we've seen with their past port releases, you can likely expect a price drop on their other titles, so keep an eye out for that as well!

There have actually been several, despite Lasz' short post. Song Summoner was actually the first, Chaos Rings another, and there have been ports of several Square Enix games already, including Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, and Secret of Mana. There might even be more that I can't recall off the top of my head, too.

HOLY FINAL FANTASY II. I never knew they had it on iOS.

I really should make a game with the same leveling system, which I love.

It's like real life.

I heard about this yesterday, and I'm definitely excited.

I hope they fix the major lag issues that were present in the PSP port. Other than that, it should be great as is.

I of course picked it up yesterday and have just gotten the go ahead to run off with Argath and find the Marquis.

So far, I like it. That lag is definitely there a bit when lots is going on or when you're rotating about the screen, though I like the freedom the rotation allows.

Amusingly enough, though, they've made it all seem fresh to me! I've played through the original PS version twice now, but I never touched War of the Lions on PSP. I love the Shakespearean English flair they've thrown in! It absolutely suits the story, and really is a game changer. The new names for skills and such is also throwing me off slightly, but I'll adapt easily enough.

I think the cutscenes are great, and I'm definitely looking forward to progressing through this refurbished version of one of my fave FF titles. The port is definitely doing it justice, in my opinion, and is very easy to command and move through. Kudos to SE on this one!

Hello again, CoN! First day buyer, like many here, I'm sure. This has been FFT Revival week for me: just discovered how to install FFT 1.3 on the PSPgo, and the iOS version to take on my iPhone! Glorious! The controls translated rather nicely to the mobile format, and with that unprecedented zoom, I've never felt closer to the characters. Well worth the $16, especially if it ever disappears from the Apple App Store. Love it! Glad to see the love pouring out for the best SRPG *ever*!

Welcome back! Just to add to what Perigryn said, the writing is excellent. I really like the tone.

Good to see you back, I saw one of your old posts during Necromancy Week and wondered where you'd gone off to.

Two things:

1. PSPGo? Someone bought one? smile.gif
2. Don't mean to burst your bubble, but if it disappears from the App Store for some reason, I'm pretty sure that Apple maintains the right to remove it from your phone, too. I know I've read about that for other apps. However, I see no reason to think that this would ever be removed, I only ever have heard of seriously buggy applications, copyright infringers or AO-content apps actually being removed.

I should note that I was definitely not a first-day buyer, though I might get it down the road. Having had it and played through most of it on my PSP already, I didn't really see the need to get it for $16. It's a good price, but I can already play it and already have a game sucking up my iPhone gaming time. Maybe sometime, though, especially after I get my next iPhone since my 3GS probably won't run it all that well.
