Hi, I've already done with FFT on PSX. This is my second time I played. Before it was like hmm... 5 years ago. Anyway, now I think I made BEST POSSIBLE TEAM in the game. Plase tell what do you think or propose some changes on better if these could be did.
What is characteristic for my team - each person is created individual, in order to win all battles in team 2-3 characters, or even alone for all battles (!). I invite you to lecture:

1) AGRIAS: (Attack and Def. char.) First and Best setting what I'm most proud of the way she is:

Excalibur <> Holy Sword
Kaiser Plate <> Item
Ribbon <> Auto-Potion
Maximilian <> Throw Item
Chantage <> Teleport

Comment: She's perfectly complete. She's a main healer of team and same time, she can hit strongly from distance (Lightening Stab, HE). She can also heal or resurrect team members from distance, because of "Throw item" or strongly attack, if all are fine.

She's unable to get any bad status (Ribbon), she regenerate all the time (regen 90-100 hp each turn) and because of ''Haste'' she's regeneration is twice faster smile.gif She has "Kaiser Plate" what equal very high def. (30% from the front, 50% from the side, 100% from the back - but no one can be that close tongue.gif). Even if, remember she still has "auto-potion". Finally, she also has "reraise" all the time, so even she would be killed, she will be resurect all the time, so she is hmmm... immortal?

If you want say - YOU SHOULD GIVE her CHAOS BLADE it's better ! or ESCUTCHEON (2) ! - you're wrong. If she would have "Chaos Blade", she'd be only 11 speed (!) and without haste, so that would destroy she's effectiveness and "Regen" strategy. Escutcheon (2), it could be smart, but only if you fight by Agrias, as the only one character in your team. She can win all battles alone, but now we talk about TEAM, so Eschutcheon (2) will be more helpful for someone, who is in centrum of battle. Of course we talk about her, when she's 99 lvl.

2) RAMZA: (Attack char.) I present my "born to kill" setting below tongue.gif Best for Ramza I think, enjoy!

As a Lancer (99 lv.):

Javelin (2) <> Jump
Venetian Shield <> Guts
Grand Helmet <> Auto-Potion
Robe of Lords <> Defence Up
Bracer <> Teleport

Comment: He's real destroyer. Strategy is easy. He's only 11 speed, so we go to the enemies and do "scream" until they will be in range of attack our's Javelin (2). Attack rate is 24 at the start so Ramza will hit 540-999, but he will increase AT and Speed rate in first 1-3 turns. So if he will be in center of battle, his speed will be 13-14 and AT rate 26-27.

Worth to notice is Ramza's "DEF. Combo" = Venetian Shield + Protect/Shell (Robe of Lords) + Defence UP. It makes Ramza tough like a robot. Best attack of Dark Behemot, and "Triple Thrunder" by Tiamat will hit 150-250 HP - what "Auto-Potion" will cover very fast. We of course can't forget about "Jump" ability - great distance from the start and 999 HP damage almost all the time.

Only weakness of he, is that he can be cursed by some bad status. Anyway, because of "Venetian Shield", possibility is from 20 to 65% of chance (depends from enemy and status) and we still have Agrias with "Remedy", so... what's a problem?

Next char. below >>>

I just beat this game for the second time. The amusing thing is that the first time I beat was when it was released in the US, so... yeah, well over a decade ago. I just had a nostalgia itch I guess, along with feeling a bit disappointed with myself in using calculators with Holy to jam through it the first time.

This time around, I restricted myself in a few ways. I refused to steal or use any equipment gained from new party NPC's ( yeah, no Orlandu's Excalibur), refused to use any chemist items (no phoenix downs), and refused to make any casting classes. I also refused to take blade grasp or abuse permanent gains in faith and brave ratings for my pc's.I wanted to beat the game with every encounter using fighting classes and store bought items.

Ramza was set up as a Squire main class (I did obtain all skills and Ultima for him) with Punch Art as my secondary. Reaction was Abandon, Support was 2 swords, move skill was move+2.

I used 4 generic soldiers set up as Ninjas with Punch Art as their secondary. Reaction was Abandon, support was Attack Up, and move skill was move +2.

At the very final fight of the game, my characters were level 38-41.

Every single encounter in the main storyline was beaten using that setup listed above, with shop purchased items, excluding one. The freakin' Lost Sacred Precincts fight with the engineer with the 13 speed and the hydra back up. I had to wuss out and make everyone a Chemist with Hamado reaction and arm them with guns, and had to take a few tries to finally beat that one.

The whole game was really challenging that way. I had to be careful of every move so that if a character died, I had a space near them on the same elevation to use the Punch Arts Revive skill to get them back up. Abandon with a Feather Cloak was very strong as a defense, but things still made it through rarely and wasn't nearly as broken as Blade Grasp.

Ninjas with Attack Up should not be underestimated. They hit *hard*.

Awesome Web Site. Really glad people slapped it up and keep it maintained for these classic great games.

I don't really have a "best" team. I've mastered this game so currently I'm giving myself challenges, such as Ramza only etc. If I were to make a favorite party it'd be Ramza, Orlandu, Mustadio, Beaowulf, and for my last character I usually use Rafa, Malak, or Worker 8 just 'cause I like them. Really though, all I need is one character, even a random one hired at the soldier office. Best one you can use though is Ramza as a squire late game. Following him is Orlandu as a Holy Swordsman. Ramza as a squire can use scream and boost his speed, so if you setup right you can get yourself going 5+ turns in a row with ease. Then you just dual weild with 2 Excalibur or something else powerful and beat away for max damage. I killed the final boss in a few turns. Didn't get hit by her even once. If I remember right, I don't even think I let her have a turn, but it's been a while. I'll post a full party with equipment one day whenever I play through it again normally.

Ramza - Dark Knight/Lancer/Monk
Orlandu - Sword Saint (Holy Swordsman)
Agrias - Holy Knight
Beowulf - Templar (Temple Knight)
Balthier - Knight (I leave him with two knight swords I have left then I spam Barrage against the foe) or Worker#8 if you are playing on the PSX

My best five is kind of simple, but it works extremely well.

I have been using...

Knight (Battle Skill, Item, Counter, Throw Item, Move-HP Up)
This character is maxed out in Knight and Chemist

Archer (Charge, Item, Weapon Guard, Equip Crossbow, Move-HP Up)

Ninja (Throw, Item, Counter, Secret Hunt, Move +2)
Character is maxed out in Ninja

Wizard (Black Magic, Item, Weapon Guard, Equip Shield, Move +1)
Maxed in Wizard

Lancer (Jump, Item, Counter, Equip Sword, Move-HP Up)

Very basic, I am not an expert in these games, but this group does AWESOME!!!
All my characters are just about maxed in Chemist skills.
Try it out!

For the PSX version.

From the get-go, I have already visualized my best and enjoyable team playing the game. Ramza of course with Agrias, Cid, Beowulf, and Reis.

Three of these characters already have good compatibility with each other: Cid (Scorpio), Agrias (Cancer), and Reis (Pisces). Thus the effects of their abilities such as healing to support each other are already favorable. If Ramza is Virgo, he would be best compatibility with Reis and dodge bad compatibilities with Agrias and Cid. This team leaves only Beowulf (Libra) having bad compatibility with Agrias but it's of little consequence as his skill set outweighs that compatibility shebang.

Now for the fun part. Class and equipment. Three of them have Draw Out as secondary because it's nice to have units that can heal themselves as well as nearby allies. I prefer + movement though teleport is better to use in stages where terrain is vertically challenging.

[+]Ramza[+]
Monk-Squire, Blade Grasp [R], Equip Armor [S], Move +3/Teleport [M]
(No Weapon), Crystal Helmet, Rubber Costume/Secret Clothes, Bracer

I prefer Ramza to be the most versatile unit of the team and be able to deal damage, heal or revive allies, as well as buff any ally with his Guts skill set. Leveling up as a monk as soon as he is able is most beneficial to him as HP and PA are more important to him in this role. The HP and PA growth is a bit better than his default class as a monk. I don't really need him to be able to equip weapons as his squire class would otherwise allow, thereby making those weapons available for the others. Equip armor allows him to wear helmet and armor for HP, although clothes are superior to armor in terms of flexibility in battle. Too bad he can't wear hats as a monk or he'd be a blitz-machine with Thief Hat. Because of the monk's innate 4 jump, he can scale most terrain easily so maximizing his movement range works wonders. Otherwise he can just use teleport. He can also have Steal as secondary for stages where you need to steal but no ninjas to spare because his innate martial arts skill increases the success of stealing.

[+]Agrias[+]
Holy Knight-Samurai, Blade Grasp [R], Attack Up [S], Move +2/Teleport [M]
Excalibur & Escutcheon 2, Genji Helmet, Genji Armor, Genji Gauntlet

Agrias has pretty decent PA, which is necessary for the damage output of her sword skills. However her MA growth surpasses her PA growth and thus benefits nicely with Draw Out as secondary. The full set of Genji equipment on her grants commendable HP and a nice mix of PA and MA points for her role as bruiser/support, especially since Draw Out skills are influenced by MA. She's almost like Ramza above in terms of capabilities in battle minus the ability to revive. Having an innate evade of 25%, Escutcheon 2 and Blade Grasp makes her very hard to get hit by physical attacks and magic only hits 50% of the time thanks to the shield. Alternatively, she's also good as Geomancer with her base class as secondary. Geos got better PA growth and starts out with better PA than her base class, which is pretty important for her sword skills.

[+]Cid[+]
Holy Swordsman-Samurai, Blade Grasp/Abandon [R], Two Swords [S], Move +3/Teleport [M]
Excalibur & Chaos Blade, Thief Hat, Robe of Lords, Feather Mantle

Just the item set up alone makes this already powerful unit into a war machine, being able to kill almost anyone with in one action. Having the robe adds more points to his PA and MA for All Swordskill and Draw Out, while the mantle makes him hard to hit, especially with Blade Grasp, as well as decent protection from magic. Alternatively, Abandon works nice too as his reaction ability and compound his evasion. He also has uber speed with Excalibur and Thief Hat on, allowing him to crush the opposition swiftly before most of them could retaliate.

[+]Beowulf[+]
Temple Knight-Samurai, Blade Grasp [R], Two Swords [S], Move +3/Teleport [M]
Excalibur & Chaos Blade, Grand Helmet, Maximillian, Germinas Boots/Feather Mantle

Beowulf seems more of a redundant unit with this set up having Draw Out at secondary but he still has a useful skill set as a Temple Knight, making enemies easier to deal with by inflicting no charge time status effects. His equipment (aside from his weapons) isn't that stellar but it does grant him ample HP and maneuverability so he can position himself in a better place on the field. With amplified HP, it leaves great room for his any-target-within-range Shock ability when he runs low on HP. The more HP he can spare to give up, the more damage he can inflict. Otherwise he can just double hit with his weapons.

[+]Reis[+]
Dragoner-Calculator, Auto-Potion [R], Magic Attack Up [S], Move +2/Teleport [M]
C Bag, (No Shield), Ribbon, (No Armor), Setiemson/Chantage

Reis has awesome stat growth across all categories. However, being unable to equip a majority of weapons, she'd be more useful as an offensive caster with Math Skill as secondary, having magical damage output comparable to a full-fledged wizard. That being said, she has generous amounts of HP as well as exceptional speed, thus having more durability and potentially be able to deal more damage than a wizard in a given time frame as she would be able to cast more often. Furthermore, MP and CT is of no consequence when using Math Skill. C Bag and Setiemson are the only things she can equip in her Dragoner class that grants additional MA. You also noticed 3 people in this team have Excalibur, which can absorb Holy. She doesn't need to rely on Math Skill Cure 3 to heal your units on the field. She's just too amazing to be able to heal allies and damage enemies in one action! Still she might knock herself out by her own Holy so Chantage can benefit her and not have to rely on others to revive her.

==A Little Note==
The different abilities require spending some time accumulating JP. Sure the Page Down glitch could expedite the process for some but there are classes immune to it. You want to have great JP return with minimal experience gained so you don't end up leveling in a class you don't want the character to. There's a safe way of accumulating JP with low EXP gain and that is for the characters to use action on someone who is at least 10 levels below them. This would result in normal JP gain based on job mastery & level while earning only 1 EXP point for each action. It will save you the trouble of having to switch classes every time your character is about to level up.

I always thought anyone as wizard class with master calculator secondary equipped with 2 wizard rods was a pretty unstoppable character. Who needs the rest of the team? lol

I'm aware this topic is older but to avoid spam I'm not opening a new discussion on this. smile.gif I didn't see in the rules about reviving older topics but don't worry. Since I don't post much this should be the only time. I also don't need to post as much because I've played games considerably.

Playing against real people in real time over the net/in person is a gamble. I assume both sides are serious and should have theoritical the same chance. In the end the winner would be chosen at random by the computer. That's if the sides are fully optimal.

With that out of the way, I ended up with this. I've posted this elsewhere.

Ramza - Me

Guts
Math Skill
Blade Grasp
MagDefUP
Teleport

Excalibur
Aegis Shield
Thief Hat
Rubber Costume
108 Gems

----

This build isn't super defensive or offensive. It's well-rounded to deal with a multitude of scenarios. I know there's better equipment but the Excalibur pushes the defense of enemies away.

----

Three Generic Women.

Battle Skill
Math Skill
Blade Grasp
Maintenance
Teleport

Excalibur
Aegis Shield
Ribbon
Crystal Armor
Chantage

----

This is good enough. I'm sure there might be something better, but I don't know of any battles where the enemies survive this. Like I stated, wink.gif a real time battle against humans would come down to a coinflip.

Though low-level runs exist for reasons like these. wink.gif
