I've seen a few of these "one-off Easter egg" posts on here, so I figured you people might be able to help me.
The first time I made it to the Glacier area (I repeatedly got stuck and started completely over, because I'm dense like that), I found an item that I've not found any mention of anywhere else. I believe it was in the area with the hot springs, but it might have been the other part of the map that looks fairly similar (I wasn't a bright child). At any rate, I was walking around hitting Select, because I was under the impression that the hot spring kept you from passing out. Right near the water, I got the typical "item get" message up at the top of the screen, telling me I'd found "a Piece of the Alexander Puzzle". It was put into my Key Items and stayed there for the rest of the game, but as far as I remember it didn't have a description, or any indication as to what it was for. I didn't find any other pieces, but I didn't really look, either. I didn't think anything of it (I didn't know what Mithril was for until I discovered the internet, either) until I went through it again and couldn't find it for all my searching. I thought it was even weirder when I found no mention of it on any fansites or forums. Now, I should mention that VII was the first FF game I ever played, and at the time I didn't even realize online guides were a thing, so I had no idea Alexander was a summon, let alone one you can get in that general area. That makes me think this isn't a case of me mis-remembering something that happened when I was young. I should also point out that, while I've found no mention of an Alexander Puzzle in the game, I did find out that there is a real-world puzzle game (a bit like a Rubik's cube) called "Alexander's Star" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander%27s_Star). So it wouldn't surprise me if they, for whatever reason, stuck a mention of it in the game. Oh! And I should also mention that, on that same playthrough, not long after finding the puzzle piece, I made it to the area on the map with the rocks that look like faces and got a message about hearing something that sounds like singing. I've not gotten it since then, so maybe the two are related? I'm just sort of interested in seeing if anyone has heard of this, or even found it themselves. That would be a heck of a validation; most people I've mentioned it to think I'm either lying or imagined it. |

I haven't heard of either of those circumstances ever either. What version of the game are you playing, anyways? North American? European? Also, did you simply Google-search to see if there was a Wiki post on the matter or anything since these discoveries/this post? I may just have to do it myself since I am now curious...

North American. It is the, um, anniversary version? I forget what it's called, but it's apparently known for having some weird bugs. I got stuck in the North Cave one run due to that, unable to complete the game. Was not amused
And yeah, I've checked everything I can think of. That's actually how I found that Alexander's Star thing. I came here as sort of a "last resort", because I realize it sounds a bit like one of those "I found a Masamune!"-type posts. |

Was that actually an official release? Are we talking about a version of FF7 on PC? I seem to recall seeing such a thing in the past, but I also seem to recall that there was nothing official about it. I could be way, way wrong on this. I am not seeing much evidence on Google either way at the moment. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

It was official, yeah. "Greatest Hits", apparently o.O And for the PlayStation, not PC.

Wonder what the heck happened for you, my man! I never saw anything like that, myself. Wonder what my next playthrough may reveal! Only glitch I ever experienced was with my memory card, which was incredibly disappointing! -------------------- Games on the Go Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy: Four Warriors of Light Baldur's Gate Too much to play, so little time! But that one should be identical to the original. Don't have anything to offer other than that, though, sorry. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
