Alright. I've been gone for a while, but I've been playing Chrono Cross (don't shoot me), FFX (don't shoot me), FFVIII (don't shoot me), FFV, and most of all, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Well, most of all Skyward Sword, but vvhatever.
My take on FFIV: TAY? Well, friends, it's well worth buying all of the chapters for 3700 Wii Points (hope I did my math right, it might actually be 4000). The final chapter (800 WP) is very difficult otherwise. The characters, if you didn't beat the individual chapters and copy them over, suck to high heaven due to their equipment. For example (very minor spoiler pertaining an obvious party member) Possible spoilers: highlight to view So bear that in mind. However, all of your old favorites return for the finale, plus LOTS more, except a few characters Rydia is equipped with the basic Whip in her right hand, and leather equipment. Really. You have to buy the rest. Possible spoilers: highlight to view So if you wanna use your favorites at the end, who's to stop you? Go ahead and use a spoony bard if you want. The new Band System is pretty neat, too, if hard to learn, but you'll soon be trying to fill your Band List up. Most of the bands kick butt nine times over, but you might forget to use them.I don't believe FuSoYa is playable in the final chapter, but we get Leonora, who's the closest thing to a sage One minor complaint I have would be that Ceodore is far too stereotypical "oh, I'm never going to step out of my father's shadow" hero. He does, however, combine two of Final Fantasy's most endearing heroes: Cecil and (no, not Rosa) Terrra. He can use an ability called "Awakening", much like Terra's trademark ability which slips my mind right now. It boosts his stats, but I don't use it much, honestly. He also uses White Magic (like everyone in Chapter One except Cid), and he is, as you guessed, a Paladin, but once Cecil joins your party, Ceodore becomes almost obsolete. The chapters, once you clear them, unlock a Challenge Dungeon which is kinda like the bonus dungeon in Final Fantasy IV, allowing you to get cool gear for characters. However, they ARE difficult, so just grind 'n' stuff. All and all, the entire game is worth the price, considering the entire adventure is worth buying in a store (the entire adventure is quite expansive), so if you enjoyed Final Fantasy IV in any form, you'll love Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, with its classic music and characters (even Stella returns... *gulp*). I know you're probably thinking, "Yeah, this is Chell we're talking about," but I'll just say screw that. Because I like video games, and my opinions are good. And that's an opinion. -Chell172 This post has been edited by Neal on 6th April 2012 16:59 |

Nice review, Chell.
I played The After Years (psp version) about a year ago, and liked it. The character selection and bands were both great, my one real complaint with the game is that I felt that a few areas were reused too much, particularly the Underground Waterway. Still an enjoyable game on the whole, though. -------------------- FF games completed: I (psp), II (psp), III (DS), IV (psp), V (GBA), VI (GBA), VII, VIII, IX, X, XI: Nations-Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, XII, XIII, XIV, XV. Spin-offs: FFIV: Interlude & The After Years, Crisis Core: FFVII, X-2, XIII-2, Lightning Returns, Type-0 HD, Dissidia, Dissidia 012, and Tactics (original & WotL). Enjoyed them all. |

I actually bought them all on the VC as well ... I started playing through them a while back ... got through 2 of the packs and started having to deal with some life issues and havent had a chance to return. I will eventually pick it back up but from what I remember, it was indeed pretty fun and cool to play.

There were far too many Underground Waterway-type areas, I agree. Some of the tales feel easy (Yang, Edward, Edge) while some feel brutal (Rydia, Lunarian) and a few are odd (Palom=easy then hard, I haven't gotten into Porom's yet), but they're all pretty enjoyable. |

I've been *slowly* working my way through an images only Let's Play of The After. As much as I'd like to play the game, I'm not going out to buy a new system. While watching or reading through Let's Plays aren't an equal substitute for playing the game yourself, it's what I can afford right now XD
Anyway, check out the Let's Play of "The After" here, Let's Play - Final Fantasy IV The After Years -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." "Arthur Philip Dent?" "Yes." "You're a total knee biter." |

Well, I guess some people don't. But... ZELDA, MAN. Well, and other retro games and stuff... But I can see why you wouldn't wanna spend 100+ dollars on a system and game. |
