iOS Sound in Fantasy Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI is one of the few Final Fantasy games between I and XII that I never played through. Yes, I know it is considered one of the best (if not the best) RPGs of all time. I've played numerous RPGs over the last twenty years and last night when I saw it was available for iOS I clicked the purchase button right away. I'm playing a Final Fantasy tabletop (as in real life with pencil and dice) RPG with my friends and the series has been on my mind the past few weeks. Ergo, when I saw VI available I was excited to finally enjoy this classic.

Unfortunately right from the opening I encountered a major breakdown. No sound will play at all. Not in the opening. Not during the game. Not at all. This bug only occurs on the iPad; the sound does play on my iPhone.

I searched on Google and found two forums where a minority of users indicated the upgrade to iOS 8 killed the sound. The solution of dropping the notification box and then closing it was given and some users indicated that fixed it. Others said it didn't work; sadly I am in the group that didn't see the issue fixed.

Nobuo Uematsu's work on VI is supposed to be among his best group of scores. Playing the game without the Final Fantasy series' trademark emotional themes wrecks the immersion into the story.

Has anyone else encountered this bug?

Has anyone had luck in solving it?

Also, where can I submit a bug report? I searched around on the web but I didn't see any official way to submit feedback other than reviewing the game on iTunes (which won't be seen by anyone in development). They've released two patches so I know they're still actively updating the game; I'd like to get this issue on the docket.

Many thanks True Believers,
Midnight_X2

p.s. Allowing you to save to the cloud for cross-playing between iPhone on the go and iPad when relaxing is a killer idea! Way to go Square Enix, great enhancement..

A lot of developers do read reviews, especially right after an OS upgrade. I would say that is probably your best bet. I personally haven't bought any of the company's IOS games save for Tactics, so beyond that I'm not sure, sorry.

Thanks for the info; glad to hear the developers monitor the reviews. I did post a review praising the game except for the sound issue. It's my first post in the iTunes store. iTunes acknowledges that I posted a review and brings up my text when I click to post; however, it doesn't appear under the game reviews. Perhaps they monitor posts for profanity and nonsense before letting them appear? It's a mystery.

I'm all geared up to play this (a little too excited). I yanked my old FF Anthology Strategy Guide off the shelf just in case I get stuck & to make sure I can go back if I miss anything. I just need sound. thumbdown.gif

I'm going to keep tinkering with the app to see if there's anything I can do to get it to play.

There's a much better guide than that old Anthology guide. I feel like I have a link to it somewhere.

Iphones have a killswitch for the sound loacated at the upper left hand corner, right above the volume control. If you flip that killswitch and the sound comes back, that's your issue.

This feature was put in to avoid a lengthy process of silencing your phone at meetings/musical performances/etc.

Unfortunately the bug is on the iPad, not the iPhone. If only it could be something simple like the killswitch cool.gif .

I hope someone in the community can steer me the right way. I want to log a bug report to get this on Square Enix's radar. They have been actively updating their iOS releases including Final Fantasy VI (the last patch was in December if I recall correctly).

When I click the link to Square Enix from iTunes you go to a listing of all their games with FAQs. For FF VI the sound issue is not among the fixes.

This is really bumming me out. I know I could play it without sound but that's really cutting an important element out of the ambiance. If anyone has an idea where I can go to report this I would give that person 1000 "Thank You's"!
