Job Description

Summoners are quite the mixed bag. Their abilities are incredibly powerful, but most of the higher-level abilities are incredibly expensive and slow, making the time mage's support ability Short Charge a necessity. They are probably the most vulnerable class in the game with bad speed and HP. However, their spells do only affect Allies or Enemies depending on whether the spell effect is positive or negative for the recipient.

Job Ability Description

Moogle and Fairy are quite nice, making the summoner a good healer. Golem is also quite nice, absorbing physical attacks for the entire party. As for its offensive spells, Titan is good, as is Cyclops, Bahamut, or Odin if you have Short Charge. It should also be noted that Zodiac, the most powerful summon in the game, can be used by summoners, but only from Elidbis in the Deep Dungeon. Half of MP is also a great ability to get, especially if you like to summon.
